Stock HU speaker wire polarity

I'm adding some better speakers. How do I tell positive vs negative on the factory speaker wires?

Don't have a service manual.

I've tried the volt meter, but the needle seems to jump the same either way. Do I need a digital volt meter? What settings do I use? OHMS?

Thanx
