Another Simple G35 Install finished :) Pics..

Just completed a simple install in a G35 sedan for one of our forum members.

The goals of the install were:

1. conserve as much trunk space possible while maintaining the use of hte spare tire
2. clean sound quality
3. full Video playback ability for all occupants.

so...lets get started

The source unit of the system is a new Pioneer Avic-Z1 headunit, using the double din dash conversion, and drilling a few new holes, i managed to flush mount the unit in the dash. Also note the DLS sub bass controller mounted in the ashtray location to provide stealthy yet easy access.

A set of DLS Ultimate UP6 components makes up the front stage, the midbass is sealed in the stock lower door location, while the tweeters are flushed into the kick panels as those are my favorite spot...again, imaging was eye level, not low down by the feet A set of DLS 426 coaxials occupy the rear door. All brand new speaker wiring was ran into all the doors, no reuse of stock wiring here

For upfront video display, a pair of my own replacement sun visors with 8" widescreen LCDs were used. I reupholstered them in grey suede to provide a more classy and clean look:

For the back seat, a set of my own replacement headrests with 8" LCDs are used:

As an alternate video source, a PS2 is mounted in the upper glovebox, though a tight fit, we can insert and remove discs with no problem

now here are some pics of the video components turned on, each screen is capable of playing either video source...etc

Moving on to the trunk, to me, hte best way to install a sub an amp in a G taht satisfy the condition of keeping the spare trunk and saving as much space as possible is a side box, similar to a 4080 box. I essentially extended it to include an amp rack as well. I took a mold of the back of a 4080 box, and then added it to a MDF amp rack...A DLS reference RA50 5 channel amp is mounting upfront powering the entire system, and a DLS 12" subwoofer resides in the back. overall, virtually no additional usable trunk space was lost compraed to just a 4080 box

sounds pretty good i may add thanks for 4080 for building such a nice box for me to mold off of, and el duderino for providing the DLS components

Looks good man, WTF do you guys do about that LED in the DLS bass ****? it is so bright it blinds/distracts me at night, I have alrleady moved it to two locations to try and reduce the distraction, and I am getting ready to just cover the bulb.

Any suggestions 16psi? And you didn't keep his Dual Climate?

yeah slim ps2

as for theat LED...well the ashtray closes when you dont want it down...but other wise...my usual is either take it apart and snip the wires, or put a little piece of black putty over the hole and make it go away

what's the box wrapped in 16psi? Are your headrests still "active restraint"? most rear end accidents result in injury to the neck. But the screens sure do look good. Nice monitors in every location not cheesy. and the suede is a nice touch.

Very clean install!

My observaitions:

1. Slim PS2. looks like the compartment has to be open to access it.. what controlers are you using? Or just unplugging and plugging back in when needed.
2. Nice sub box, I think it would have looked better with the amp flush or recessed.
3. What is that in the lower glove box?

Just my $.02!!

Screens and dash look awesome! Great work!

the customer supplied the brakcets, but its from www.grubbsperformance.com

its covered in foam backed cloth fabric

as for the comments:

1. well yeah, the comaprtment door needs to be open for you to access it, we didnt go through a flushed controller port type of install, it will be removable too

2. i definetly agree, but there was simply no room. if you look at it, the sub plus the length of the amp was already only 1.5" shorter than the entire length of the trunk space, not to mention in order to get the proper air space for the sub, as in the 4080 box mold, the sub box itself extends to more than half the distanbe from the back fo the trunk to the front.

3. thtas a low profile power inverter

no, no more active restraints anymore, but its for the sake of video!
