help with basic amp, sub, 4080 install for coupe with bose...
So i have read as many of the threads i had patience for and now want to confirm the info i got...
It's been since High School since i've done an install so wanna make sure i'm on the right path for the G install....
If you have something that will help in this area, or can confirm the info, or answer the questions please post a reply, if not the thanks for reading my post and please don't bother saying to search other posts.
I have '04 Coupe w/ Bose HU.
I want to use the famous 4080 box. It looks clean and out of the way.
My goals:
1) To have a little more bass so i don't blow my stock speakers and enjoy the my music more in the G.
2) To have a sub/amp set-up that doesn't cost a fortune and is something i can install.
3) To have a sub/amp that takes up very little space.
The Steps?: (Simplified)
1)Bring power wire through the firewall to amp like this:
2) From my Bose HU connect amp via either: a) http://www.electronixwarehouse.com/c.../pac-sni35.htm or b) running speaker wire from HU to an amplifier with high level in or speaker level input.
3) Mount amp on rear seat back to keep out of the way.
4) Mount 4080 box to vehicle(any tips on this? or it comes with mounting instructions? Is it permanently mounted or just set in place?)
5) Install Sub and connect it to amp.
The Questions:
No need to mess with the Bose amp right?
What line to amp method did you guys do/whats better sound quality? (speaker wires to amp inputs or line converter)
Connect new sub amp to any HU speaker wires? i.e. rear or front outputs are both ok?
What the easiest route for running power wire and speaker/signal wires to amp?
Is the 4080 box permanently mounted or just set in place? if mounted and attached to car does it come with mounting instructions?

To steps...
1. Yes bring power through the firewall through the grommet. Make sure to give a good ground to your amp (there in the trunk pan should be ok. Run a remote turn on from your ACC is recommended.
2. You can simply grab any of the speaker wire inputs using a LOC and turn them into RCAs for your amp (which should have a built in crossover).
3. No problem with back seat mount.
4. 4080 box does not need to be mounted, rather just sit there. It should stay in place.
5. Pretty much.
To your questions...
1. No need to mess with Bose amp unless you choose to take the speaker wire output to your rears from here.
2. As mentioned, I would just use a LOC from the rear speakers. It's easy. You don't have to get at your head unit. Course, I replaced my HU so that's not an issue for me.
3. I'd just pull off the rear speaker wires.
4. Speaker signal wires are simple, they are already back there in the trunk. The Power wire, I just run mine along the side well along the floor all the way to the trunk.
5. Set in place.

Yes the bose amp is right under the trunk mat to the left of the spare tire. Someone posted a full wiring diagram to tell you what wire is what for the factory amp (going in and out). I believe it was hosted at digitalwheelz, but am not sure where it is right now.
The 4080 box does have a aluminum mounting tab that slides under the rubber trunk gasket. This allows the box to be mounted in place with out drilling or cutting. Simply pull the rubber gasket up from the car and slide out the box for a 10 second box removal.

4080
4080
Also 4080-
I've seen you have both driver and passanger side boxes, in you opinion one better then the other?
and is one more shallow/takes up less trunk space?
Same cost right?

I think it is best to bypass the Bose amp and tap into the wires coming from the head unit into the Bose, rather than tapping into the speaker wires in the back. The Bose amp adds some undesirable electronic effects to the output to the speakers, such as progressively cutting the bass once the volume reaches a certain point as you continue to increase the volume. For example, once you reach number 23 (which may not be the right number) and continue to increase the volume, the bass either does not increase or may actually decrease. This is a nice idea if you have stock speakers so you don't over distort and damage them, but it you have the proper speakers and amp (sub and separates) then this circuit will be counter productive.
Check out this thread: https://g35driver.com/forums/audio-video-electronics/101293-diy-add-sub-your-bose-equipped-g35-coupe.html. The install was soooo easy with this! I wired into the amp without cutting the wires using plastic wire splicing things from autozone (sorry I can't remember what they are called).
