Hey Gang,
Just found out the hard way that the PAC SWI-ECL doesn't work with my '03 coupe. My only option is the SWI-X. Has everyone had success with this adapter? If so, does anyone have any pics of where they've mounted the LED eye?
Thanks,
B

Damn!
What Eclipse model did your bud have? My installer told me the SWI-ECL doesn't work with the combination of the AVN5435 and my car.
Any ideas? I'm close to snapping his neck.

My car has an AVIC-D1 with the SWI-PS and works great.. it's an 05 coupe.
I just did a friends 03 Coupe with an Eclipse AVN5435 and the PAC SWI-ECL. It also works like a champ. Not sure what they are doing wrong. It's pretty simple, power, ground, ACC. Then you take the white wire and split it. You run two resistors inline on each split to the appropriate pins in the wiring harness. Then you also ground one wire in that same harness. From there you just tap the brown and white wires to the brown and white wires on the remote input harness. Anyway, good luck. It should work no problem.

I verified with both Eclipse and PAC before buying the SWI-ECL. They both said it would work. Even the installer tried to sell it to me when I told him I was interested in the PAC. However, I had already bought mine off eBay and just needed him to install it.
Post-install, he said that the SWI-ECL won't work on my car due to the OEM steering wheel controls/wiring...something about 4 vs. 12-pin or something. He said it would work on "just about any other car". He even said he called PAC and Eclipse and told them both of the "incompatibility", and told me that if/when I called them again they'd tell me it was not compatible. Is he full of **** or what?
If the consensus here is that he's bull****ting and just couldn't get it to work, I'm going to initiate a credit card fraud claim to get my money back. Anyway, thanks for the helpful info everyone. I may just try to do this install myself....I searched the DYI's for the PAC SWI-ECL (or any wired input) install but couldn't find one. Anyone know where I can dig that up?
Thanks as always!

Simply put he is full of ****, and sounds like quite the incompetent installer. Ive done about a dozen or so of them flawalesly as you see others have as well.
Although it could be the unit itself, just unfortunate you cant send it back to PAC. Possibly try the Fleabay seller..

On and running
Supposedly this guy has done a lot of the PAC SWI installs. He's got a bunch of them on his wall at his shop. Just not sure why he couldn't figure out mine. Maybe it is malfunctioning but I guess I should try to do it to make sure, now that I have this helpful info. Thanks for the tips.
Anyone know of a DYI for this mod?

Yeah I've heard about the lag from many people. Do you think it's just due to the position of the LED, or the fact that the infrared beam is traveling through direct sunlight under the windshield? Does your lag occur at night too?
Note: I asked the installer and PAC about the SWI-X lag and both said there's no latency that they've experienced. However, I'm still not convinced. This is why I was leaning toward the SWI-ECL. I'll probably give that a try again.
Thanks,
B

The lag is a "flaw" in the design. Even if you contact PAC tech support they'll tell you the same. I've had that sucker right against the head unit and it still lags. Then again, I'm very impatient.
I think the wired in one lags to be honest. I found that the SWI-ECL lags more than the SWI-PS. It may be an Eclipse thing, not sure. My Pioneer is pretty much instant like factory, but the Eclipse HUs I have done are not (using SWI-ECL). Nonetheless, they work. I have not tried any of the infrared ones and maybe they lag even more.
Again, your installer is incompetent. It should work. Worst case scenario, he should have tried another unit just to verify it wasn't the unit itself. If he has done other PAC SWIs this one should be pretty straight forward.

Here is the deal... there is no need to get behind the steering wheel at all. Everything you do is right behind the head unit.

I will give you a quick synopsis of the wiring below:
A. There are two sides of wires in the PAC. One side has just a brown and white wire. Those connect to the brown and white wire on the remote input on your Eclipse deck. Easy enough.
B. The other side of the PAC has a bunch of wires. Here is what you will use...
1. Black - Connect it to Ground
2. Red - Switched 12V (ACC)
3. White wire - More description to follow
C. Ok the White wire is the last wire on the PAC you need to mess with.
1. Split the white wire so it is two White wires.
2. On each of the white wires you will insert an inline resistor. One wire needs the 47 ohm resistor, the other wire needs the 150 ohm resistor.
D. Connecting to the appropriate harness...
Here is a picture of the harness that you will be connecting the white wires to... (Connector viewed from pin side not wire side)

1. Connect the wire with the inline 47 ohm resistor to Pin 22. I just use tap in connectors to tap to the wire itself.
2. Connect the wire with the inline 150 ohm resistor to Pin 23.
3. Finally GROUND pin 25.
Now all you need to do is follow the programming instructions to program the PAC and you should be all set!
