Low cost audio?

First. I'm very impressed with what many of you have done with your audio systems. I would like to improve my audio as well, however, I don't want to spend over $500. I went to a audio place yesterday and they recommended that I replace the HU with one that is more powerful, as to avoid the necessity for and expensive amp. They also recommended that I replace the door speaker's with Kicker's. As for the bass. He said it's fine, although I disagree. I know nothing about audio, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Keep in mind to replace the HU you need to do a full double-din converstion and if you throw in something cheap you will kill the value of your car. Just replace the amp in the trunk and get some new speakers.

Beowulf is on target WRT bang for buck. Replacing the factory speakers and amplifer will make much more sonic impact than just changing the source. You did not mention if you have the Bose system or not.

If I were to replace the factory amp and speaker's, what brand and power should I look for? I don't know if music preference makes a difference, but I listen to metal. ei) Disturbed, Sevendust, Avangesevenfold (sp?), ect.

I am currently running elemental designs amps. Good clean power with a 3 year warranty. Reasonably priced, to boot.

I would also consider the edi 6500's. A very good sounding component set. Gobs of midbass, and smooth tweets.

You can get a package deal if you buy any amp and speaker set.

Options:
NINe.2 (100w x 2 @ 12V)
EDi 6500's
$395.25 Normally $465.00

NINe.2X (200w x 2 @ 12V)
EDi 6500's
$437.75 Normally $515.00

This puts you under your $500 budget, but you will still need wires etc...

Start by maybe replacing your stock speakers. I replaced the front components w/ Infinity's and in the process of replacing the rear and rear deck w/ Infinity's as well. I left the stock "Bose" headunit. If you do search, this has been discussed before. Good luck!

As per usual... I am always game for some self promotion... Here's a link for my build up. Non-Bose system. OEM deck as source unit.

+1! I was very disappointed with the BOSE in the G35c. I heard everyone bashing BOSE but I just thought their ears were just very picky because I had BOSE in my 2000 Maxima and I thought it sounded pretty good, but after hearing the BOSE in the 06 G35c....I see what they're talking about now . I want to upgrade to get better sound but keep the stock look (no need to bring extra attention to car theives).

I've read the sticky and it sounds like I should replace the stock amp and speakers, but I'm in the same boat as Sugar here in that I want better sound but I don't want to spend a fortune (although my budget is a bit higher than $500). I'm also a noob in the audio arena =\.

Can you guys recommend a good amp and some speakers that are relatively inexpensive but still offer great sound quality?

listen to the man. He knows what he's talking about. Those are the best Sound Quality you can get for the money. They're comparable to high ends stuff like Focals, CDT, Diamond Audio, etc.

Forget stuffs like Kappa, Kicker, Sony, etc. Don't waste your money on them.

Werd.

You are going to be hard pressed to find a set of components that sound as good as the 6500's for $250.

Unless you buy used. Which is a BIIIIG gamble.
