Navi Screen appears dead: any ideas?

Ok: the short story:

had my entire navi system / hvac / stereo stolen from my G35 Sedan: went to a salavage yard and bought another full system. replaced the wiring harness and everything works perfectly... BUT...

The navi system / screen won't even come on. No flicker... no nothing. Almost like a dead screen.

I am not entirely sure the replacement unit was from another 03 sedan - but it fits and all of the connectors-- well, connect. Everything lights up (including the lights for the navi controls) - but the screen is totally blank.

I get two (2) longish beeps from the navi-dvd player and that is it.

Any ideas? I am at a loss - and would **LOVE** to find out it is something simple... (like anything on these is *simple*).

Thanks in advance:

*bump* - I will only bump this once...

Anyone? I am at a loss here...

I may go to the DD HU replacement route. I already have all the parts (except the DD HU...).

Thanks in advance...

Thats pretty unreal that someone actually took the time to ripp all that stuff out. Not to mention its a fairly risky piece to sell since there are so few buyers/sellers.

There's very few people that have actually installed an OEM system. Look for the install thread and PM one of them; otherwise you're stuck asking the dealer...

Don't give up yet, you are probably most of the way there. You should try to find out what year the car was that the screen came from. I know there are some differnces btw the 05 and 03. Dominic of TVAndNAVToGo could probably tell you what the differences are b/c I know the unit he sells is slightly different for the 05, so he must understand the differences.

Did they steal the Nav computer out of the upper glove box or are you still using your original? Just trying to find out if there is a possibility of you having an 03-04 Nav computer and an 05+ Screen - which may not be compatible.

05 screen will not fit in an 03-04 car.....so he has either an 03 or 04 screen....i don't think there was any difference in the 03-04 years...

How the hell did they take all the stuff out of your car?????

Good info - so I guess you can rule that out - as long as we are sure there is no difference btw 03 and 04.

If you can find the pinout of the connector to the screen you could check to make sure the correct signals are there. I belive that it should be a RGBS (Red Green Blue Sync) signal. I'd check to see if the Sync is present (you might need a scope). Without a Sync I think you'd probably get a blank screen. And of course make sure power and ground are present.

Oh - they took more than that:

The SRS airbag system - brains, both airbags as well -- and my seatbelts. Having torn the front of my sedan apart myself, it is probably a matter of about 20 mins or less to get it all free...

I was actually impressed with their skill in removing it all (the SRS "brain" is held in place with a very expensive bolt that can be removed only with the right tool...) - so ... yeah - professionals...

I just suspect it is a "wrong year / wrong model (coupe instead of Sedan)" issue that can't be resolved....

Everything else works perfectly - dual climate, premium bose... etc...

Anyway -

I got the replacement units from a salvage yard - so I am not sure if the DVD player and the screen are matched.

Is there anyway to tell?

It was maybe 100 feet down the street from my apartment. There is even a motion detector light on the building.

I called the police - there had been 16 other G35's hit with identical thefts in the previous 5 weeks...

All were missing the seatbelts, airbags, SRS computer, and the HVAC/Stereo piece. Since mine had navi as well, that went with them too. They just cut all the wires that connected things together on the harness side of the connector.

All the bolts and peices were in nice neat piles in the back seat and on the floor in the back. Very nicely done...

I am going to check out the navi computer connector first tonight: I may not have set it in tight enough? I suppose it is possible. The two long beeps are from the Navi DVD player (or that immediate region...)...

Thanks again for the suggestion - I am open to trying most anything at this point...

Can anyone confirm that the navi system is the same between the coupe and the sedan? I know there may be a year issue - but is the hardware between the sedan / coupe identical?
