AVIC Z1 Hack

There is now a hack that allows you to watch video and use all nav functions while driving for the Pioneeer Avic Z1. I have tried it and it works. Not really a hack, just a back door. When you start up the car and the head unit is booting up, the auto dimmer on the Z1 needs to be triggered three times before the system fully loads. Turning your lights on and off is the easiest way to accomplish this. The Z1 should be on an audio source when you do this or it may pickup the video input. After the systems boots up you will have full video while in motion and full use of the Nav. I got this from AVIC411.com.

yessir, but you need also to be sure that your parking brake isnt engaged, or that no ground signal is sent to the parking brake wire, the easiest way to acoomoplish this is to put the parking brake wire on a swtich

Has there been any better ways to bypass this yet?? I'd really like to buy this Z1 unit, but without being able to play dvd's while in drive, I have no use for it!!

This could easily be accomplished with a microcontroller. Just someone needs the time to program the unit and make one.

PAC Audio already makes a universal trigger module which i believe can be programmed to do this... alot of people use it to bypass the lockout on the Alpine navi units... the PAC TR-7

Are you 100% sure this will work for the Z1 to play DVD's while in drive?

since i don't have a Z1 yet, and i haven't tried it out myself... i definitely can't say 100% that it'll work. if somebody that has a Z1 wants to try it... the unit is only like $30 i believe and if it works it makes life alot easier

From the specs, it looks like it can do what you are talking about. Just a little time and diligence needs to be used to try it. Placing a call to PAC Audio tech support would answer that question quickly though. Also, if I had just spent $2200 on a deck, another $30 to try this out wouldn't be a big deal.

I have a Z-1. The hack indeed does work.

As for the PAC unit, I haven't done it yet. Hopefully I'll be able to get one installed soon.

I'll give more feedback then.

I ordered a TR7 last week to automate the process so I don't have to flicker the lightswitch everytime I start the car. It should be in this week so I'm gonna give it a try this weekend. I'll let you know the outcome unless someone else gets to if before I do. Hopefully the bluetooth module comes in this week so I can do both at the same time.
