Can I use the NAV radio mute?

I added bluetooth to my 03G5at. The bluetooth (Motorola) came with a mute wire (+12v). I connected it to the NAV system at connector M58 pin 37 (RLY+). Quick as a flash - nothing. It doesn't mute. Has anyone successfully tapped into the mute circuit? It would really finish things off nicely if I could make it work like a factory install.

Yes, you can use the radio/Nav mute function. But the trick is to understand that the circuit does not use industry standard signaling (which is a 'connect-to-ground' signal). The G35 mute circuit instead requires a +12V signal. See more details in this old post of mine.

I doubt your Motorola unit is actually providing +12V mute. Have you positively (no pun) verified that with a multitester?

OK, you got me there... I have installed the Motorola IHF1000. The manual says the radio mute is +ve and I assumed 12v, but I did not check. I did confirm that wire 24 on the audio unit connects to 37 on the Nav unit - so I have the same wire that you used but it is easier to get to. I will check the voltage on the mute wire to see what level it is at. I may have to go with the relay.

I can't seem to bring up the picture from your old post.

The bluetooth kit is currently using its own speaker, so I won't be frying the Nav unit.

Thanks for the info!

madchef: hope it works - I have IHF1000 through external speaker and road noise drowns it out above 70mph.

That looks like a great option if it works. I have already Dynamated all of my doors. I makes an amazing difference with road noise. No trouble hearing at 100mph.

I am looking forward to hearing about your success with the kit!

EDIT: I looked at the specifics for the wiring kit and it looks like the G35 is the only Infiniti NOT supported. Now I'm really curious to see how this turns out!

Here is my setup:

USASpec PA11-NIS 1999-06 Nissan/Infiniti Aux input + Interface for iPod™
Select Vehicle - 2004-06 G35

Peripherals MSS (Motorola Speaker Switcher) for IHF1000 Bluetooth Phone Kit
Peripherals PPH7550 1986-05 Nissan CelFi™ Harness for MSS
Select a Vehicle - 2003-05 350z

I know it didn't list our Infiniti G35 for the MSS, but I knew (aka was pretty sure) the harness was the same, so I ordered it for the 350z anyways

I installed it this morning (along with the PA11-NIS). It must have had something to do with the amplified speaker, becase it blew up my speaker!!!!!!!! Agh!

Ok, just kidding

It works awesome, I put it after the ipod so it mutes the ipod input as well. I will post some pics of my install later (only have cell phone pics).

So far I love it!

ps- Just to be clear, I have a 2003.5 coupe w/ premium pkg stereo. Also, my IFH1000 kit had the Z01 harness, so I had to splice the wires together (fun). My phone is a Motorola SLVR L7 w/ itunes, and it works great with the kit.

Wow, sounds great so far, I have the same setup, but I have Nav and no IPod. I figure the IPod won't make a difference and, if you didn't use the Nav plug on the back of the HU, I should be OK there also. I'll wait for your pics before I order anything...
