iPod battery - stop charging and boosting audio
iPod battery - stop charging and boosting audio
Okay, I've ordered the AAI-NIS2 and I've just figured out that it ONLY lets me use the volume and mode on the steering wheel. Oh well. It's one of the simplest, most hidden ways to do this.
I have an '03 6mt coupe w/ Sat button, but no SAT radio, and a 30GB iPod video.
Here's the dilemma. I want to let it run the iPod's battery down. I'll be using the iPod MOSTLY in my car, and constant charging is murder on the iPod's battery.
I found that I could stop charging with a PocketDock, which gives me headphone line out and USB/Firewire (depending on model) inputs at the iPod's base. Pull the USB/Firewire and I stop charging. My new problem is that I haven't heard of a way to easily boost the output signal. I like the idea of hacking up the Belkin lighter cable and splicing it in behind the HU.
Option 1 - I boost the signal and power SOME of the time with ONLY the belkin unit - How?!!??!
Option 2 - I do the PocketDock and power it with USB/Firewire. Meaning I must find a cigarette lighter unit with audio boost and USB/Firewire power out!?!!!? Splice and dice?
Option 3 - I do the PocketDock and power it with USB/Firewire cigarette adapter and just crack up the volume.

then screw the Turbo1 AND the Belkin!
From the votes it looks like I should have more than enough volume from the iPod even if I don't use the Belkin or the Turbo1 line driver.
Which means I get to save some money!

Curious as to what you decided to do. I just installed the Belkin hacked install last night, and I noticed that the sound quality through the Belkin to the NIS2 was horrible compared to the sound quality from the I-pod directly to the NIS2 via y-cable from the headset jack to RCA.
What solution did you go with? How is the sound quality? I'm fine with the volume level as I have an aftermarket speaker/amp setup with factory HU, but I'm just looking for a 1-cord solution for power and sound that doesn't degrade sound quality.
