Help identifying audio component.

Hi guys,

I decided to take a peek under that left side trunk plastic cover, to see what space I have to work with when I actually do get around to installing a sub/amp. I have an 05 coupe non-bose audio system, but I do have Sirius, so I think the piece I'm looking at is part of the sat system (since the non-bose systems supposedly don't come with an external amp). However, what confuses me is that there is a whole bunch of wires coming out of this component, which i take to be the sat reciever. There are a total of 11 wires, which seems alot for just something that is inputting a signal to HU, so I'm hoping 8 of these wires be for the speakers. In this case, can someone confirm what wires I should tap into for a sub amp?

Thanks!

That is your satelite reciever.
The green/yellow is your antena, one is Satalite, one Teresterial.
The other wires supply sound, data, and recieve power / ground.

Great. Thanks. So none of those wires in the bottom most loom would contain speaker ouputs would they? All those wires go to the reciever or power/ground, correct?

Thanks G35 Mass.

correct... if you had a bose amp that unit has it's own harness in addtion to the satellite harness. the bose amp harness is where all the signal connections from the HU and the speaker outputs would be

Darn. So I guess I'm going to have to find the rear speaker wires in order to get signal inputs to an amp.

Thanks for the help tho guys!

if you follow to where the 6x9 is mounted, under the rear deck you can find speaker wires going to you 6x9. you just have to take apart the rear covers underneath.
because those wires are coming from your headunit...

You are correct, I don't have the Bose or the deck speakers. I'll have to gain access to the rear passenger speakers.....

dartmouth, are you planning on installing a full system later on (door speakers and amps to run them?) if so, i would get a pair of Soundgate LOCPREA line output converters and hook them up behind the factory headunit where the speaker outputs are... then run 2 sets of RCA cables back to the trunk.

what that'll do is give you 4 RCA's in the trunk (front L, front R, rear L, and rear R)... you can use the rear ones right now to feed a sub amp, and then if you ever wanna do another amp and speakers, the RCA for the fronts is already in the trunk for you, ready to go.

SI_G35Coupe, that does sound like the nicest way to go, but I don't think I'll be putting that kind of money into the G for another couple years. I'm actually pretty happy with the stock system, though I would like to offload the base from the speakers and give it a little deeper hit. So I'm thinking a sub amp, JL sub, and a 4080 box to start with. In this case, I can use a LOC connected to one of the rear speaks, or go with an amp with speaker level inputs, right?
