XM self install
Re: XM self install
Yes, I did this recently to my 04 coupe. Very easy, since the car is pre-wired. I decided to try having the antenna inside on the package shelf, and move it outside if reception was poor. After a week of use, I'm keeping it inside the car because reception seems fine for my area.
The dealer printed out install instructions for me. I ignored the antenna stuff, and to fit it near the back of the window, I removed the child seat anchor on the driver's side. To remove it, just snap off the plastic cover, then unbolt the anchor. I put the XM antenna over the resulting hole, and fed the wires around the opening behind the backseat by tucking the wires into the finishing strip that surrounds the passthu opening.
The mounting point for the tuner is in the trunk, under the plastic floor on the driver's side. To get to it, remove the mats so you can get to the spare tire. Remove the tire, and unbolt one bolt under the tire on the drivers side that's holding the plastic floor in place. Remove the floor and you'll see the Bose amp (in my car, anyway) and the connector for the sattelite tuner. My only problem here was the connector had no free play to it, so I couldn't mount the tuner against the back wall of the car as specified in the instructions. Instead, I used some of the padded stuff and velcro in the install kit, and attached the tuner right above the amp on the bracket holding the amp. That put it close enough to plug it into the connector. Connected it, connected the ground to the amp brakcet, routed the antenna wires to that spot and connected them, reassembled the car, and that was it.
I would be sure to ask your dealer for the install instructions with the kit - the diagrams there make these words make sense
