Thumbs up New set of R-Compound AutoX tires!!!!

Just got my delivery

they're a set of 4 275/40/17's Hankook Ventus Z214 C70 (they come in 3 different compounds, C30, C50, C70...70 being the softest. )

Hankook_Race_Tires

These things look beautiful - I've been AutoXing on Toyo RA-1's and can't wait to feel the difference (RA1's are a bit hard for autoX - they take too long to warm up)...only bad thing is that the next AutoX event is not for 3 weeks

I've been reading up a lot on AutoX tires and know that people usualy talk about Hoosier's and Kuhmo's for AutoX R-compound tires, but there's been a lot of talk about Hankook the past few years, and it sounds like many people prefer these over the others. It really seems like Hankook is pushing hard to enter the racing world...they've developed a great set of tires (dry & wet R-compounds with a range of compounds), and they've been giving really good contingency's!

Here's some shots of them:

I'll post up my impressions once I get a chance to run them. I'll be running in BSP this year.

I've heard good things about the Hankooks - what width/offset rims are you going to be using?

nice....let us know how they go. I'm looking to get a different set of r-comp tires. I always would get used sets of hoosiers or goodyear ealgle gscs' from bob woodman tires. they're really cheap and usually lasts one season.

So, you have 17" rims that are 215mm(8.5") wide like the stock 17 rims right? And you can fit 275/40's on them??

The stock tires on my car are 215/55 17, could I put wider ones, like 245/45 17 on my rims? (its a sedan)

R-compound tires with much stiffer sidewalls have better tolerance to be being squeezed onto thin rims. Some people have even squeezed 285's onto 18x8's but I wouldn't recommend it for street tires, even UHP tires.

Sedans come with 7.5 inch wheels don't they? If so, I think 235's are probably the widest you want to go.

Yeah, he's right. I run 275/40/17 R-Comps on 17x9's, and they work great. The sidewalls on these things don't even compare to those on street tires. In addition, you're typically running them at much higher PSI levels too.

sorry, haven't checked this thread in awhile...here's the latest on them:

I had a practice autoX day this past saturday and got about 21 runs in

tires: Hankook Ventus R214's: 275/40/17 on all 4 wheels

I had previsously taken the tires through a heat cycle to properly break them in (ppl say it helps to extend life and overall performance), and this was the first day that I got to try them out...I wanted at least 1 practice day to get a feel for them before the season starts

the morning was fairly cold w/ some light precipitation, but overall it was a dry day; these tires were soooo much fun! it was a really tight course (created by a miata driver ), so I didn't get to open her up much, but lots of turns.

I've run street tires (BFG KDW's) and Toyo RA-1's for autoX before...the Toyo's were far suppieor to the BFG's, and I had thought the Hankook's would be a tad bit better-->but the Hankook's felt much much more sticky. The tires broke traction in a linear way and it felt predictable and easy to control when the rear end got loose (I had gone drifting the weekend before...guess some of those tendacies carried over )

*outside of my feeling of how the tires performed, just looking at the amount of rocks/gravel they picked up, they had about 10X more than the Toyo's.

here's a pic of the tires (Hankook's are the 2 top ones in plastic bags, and Toyos on the bottom):

*the only other car that was faster than me was a Lotus Exige on R-comps (it was a miata course ...he's also competing in SCCA nationals ); there was about 45 ppl running (lots of STI's and miata's)

overall I'm very happy with these...can't wait for the season to start!

Wow...you got 21 runs in? So what...3 sessions of 7 runs? That's pretty crazy with something like 22-23 people per run group. Wish I could've made it!

we did a:
1) B-fast (7am) session (5 runs)
2) AM (10am) (6 runs)
3) lunch runs (1 run)
4) PM (6runs)
5) extended run (3 runs)

the AM session had 45+ cars! Luckily most of those ppl just wanted a quick tune up for their cars...they didn't stay long. I was there from 6:30am to 5:15pm...needless to say, I was super tired by the end.
