Question towing your ride

here's a somewhat off-topic question: for all you guys that tow their car to the track, what truck do you guys use? i know our car weighs over 3000lbs, and a trailer may at least be 500-1000lbs. what's a good rig that could tow it through the mountains (from corona to buttonwillow/laguna seca), but wouldn't kill me with gas? is that even possible nowadays?

well, the track is pretty far to drive on R-compounds. plus all the support equipment that you should have, along with the other misc stuff (like wife and daughter) tend to take up a lot of room in the lil' ol' G.

to answer my question above about gas mileage...no, it's not possible but i didn't think it would be anyway. i just picked up an armada and it works great for towing the G around (i just tried it out today going to willow springs).

Damn Nick, youre lucky. We're still waiting for a track down here. Last word is that a small "Temp" track would be built in Kalaeloa (Barbers Point). But nothing regarding a road course.

oh believe me, i can't believe i'm getting this much track time down here. there are so many events, it's hard to keep up! racing is expensive y'know! anyway, what happened to the track at barber's point? i remember going there once...it was small, but not too bad.

gone, bought out by some developer. The only thing we got left is SCCA Solo2 at the stadium but, I'm not a fan of auto-x. been there, done that..too slow for me. Drifting was going on for a while at the stadium, and I entered one event driving a friends car. It was fun, but too small. Felt more like a gymkhana course. Couldnt really do much fat smokey slides. That was short lived because of the neighborhood members werent too fond of the noise and smoke. So yah, you aint missing much back here.

Started with an '05 Ford F-150 and an open trailer. Stepped up to a Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel and an enclosed trailer and life has been much better since . The Ram diesel gets the same gas mileage (14mpg hwy) towing the loaded trailer as the F-150 did without any trailer. I highly highly recommend anything diesel.

Man, that was the nice thing about have a track close to home. The track was about 15 minutes away. I would just drive down there with the track set mounted.

ANYTHING DIESEL!

F250 or Dodge Ram if you go with Chevy make sure you get an Allison tranny

the power and MPG of a diesel will pay off the gas trucks just done have the *****. I tow a 15k lb toy hauler loaded with the toys up to pismo with the F25o and its a charm.
