nissan chumpcar?

Best nissan/datsun to look for a Chumpcar? Thinking of putting together a chumpcar, it would be cool to use something in the nissan/datsun vein. What can I get for $500? (I can upgrade the brakes and wheels but main car needs to be 500 or less). Of course safety equipment doesn't count either (roll cage, harness, etc).

$500 car to race + safety equipment. There is definately a lot of fuzzy math going on there, though, most of the cars there I saw were worth more than that lol.

I'd look into a Sentra. They are already reasonably popular track cars, OEM parts readily available (new and scrap), there is a decent performance part market (I think you can buy pre-fab bolt-in roll cages). I've also read (Grassroots Motorsports magazine) that you can get larger Nissan motors into them.

I also think an old 510 would be very cool.

Obviously a 240Z would be the coolest but even total scrappers are coming in at more than the $500 crap can budget.

Oh **** their coming to SoCal in October 15-16

I thought I had the perfect car for this race until I read....

your car must be valued at less than $500… not what you paid for it.

The Datsun 510 were set-up and still are racercars in their class. If you have the funds it can be a running nightmare of a sleeper, even for the street. Don't expect the chicks to ride with you in this chump.
This image is of a serious track sportscar run at road Atlanta this year.

I am renting a 240sx, and attending the Road America race in April. I believe this car is an ex-IT car from the SCCA.

I ran it at Hallet last year for my first race.

The funny thing was all the P cars in the paddock. Other renters showed up in their panameras and turbo 911's.

If the 240sx isn't for you, the old SE-R is a good choice too.
