I've got 350 Evos on order and will also probably be getting some 17s so I'll be going BSP soon. I'm debating on whether I want to spring for the Tein Flex with EDFC or not.

Which tires are you thinking of running?

Depending on the mods you have you might want to consider STX. Thats what I run. STX is a much more competitive class (and less expensive) for our cars. My tires are the new Hankooks (245/45/17 all the way around). They stick very well for a street tire, although I only have one autox day on them...

If you read the rules, the G35 fits in STX. I've been racing STX for the last two years and no one has questioned it... The only reason the 350z goes to BSP is because they have no back seat. Since the G35 is NOT a 2 + 2 variant of a sports car (350z, etc) it fits right in the STX class.

I thought that street touring was for sedans.

Doesn't the 3.5 Liter engine kick it out of STX? I thought that the rules read 3.2 liter N/A engine or less for STX and that the 3.5 puts it into BSP?

Read the rules:

"14. STREET TOURING CATEGORY

Vehicles eligible for this category include all
coupes/sedans with a
minimum of four seats, four seatbelts; that are non-sports car based
with maximum engine displacement of 3.1 liters, normally aspirated
and certain small displacement turbocharged sedans. No limited slip
differentials are permitted except for factory standard viscous coupler
type units.

A sports car based vehicle would include those that are 2+2 variants
of 2 seat sportscars. As a guideline, eligible cars would typically come
from the D, F, G or H-Stock classes. Note that 3.2 ‘VEHICLE CLASSIFICATION’,
also applies to the Street Touring Category, including adding
or removing cars from the exclusion lists."

Scrolling down:

"14.11 STX

A. The STX class expands the vehicle eligibility limits beyond those
specified for STS, and adds a limited number of allowed modifications.
The allowances are as follows:"...

..."3. Engine size allowance: up to 5.1, normally aspirated and 2.0,
forced induction (single turbo or supercharger)."

The G35 coupe is not a 2+2 variant of the 350z. It is a coupe version of the G35 sedan. Also your insurance does not consider the G35 coupe a sports car. Compare it with a 350z - you'll see a big difference! I do not see any exclusion from STX class.

Just curious, if the G35 does not currently go into BSP, then why is the SCCA considering moving it into ESP? While it may also fit into STX, depending upon your mods it will move into BSP.

From the May issue of the SCCA's Fastrack News:
The **** has requested that the following
class change proposal, effective
1/1/2006, be published for member
feedback:
Move from BSP to ESP: Infiniti G35
(ref. 05-010)

I guess my point was that with a few mods a G35 coupe can compete in STX and doesn't go directly to BSP just for running a simple mod like an intake. I didn't mean to say that the G35 doesn't qualify for BSP, but has another class option after it is too modded to run BS.

crazymike,.... how did you get around the:

4. Rim restriction: maximum width of 8", diameter/offset unrestricted.
Tire restriction: max width 245 mm.

rim restriction since we need staggered wheels??

I didn't get around it. I'm running all four wheels the same. 17x8 wheels and 245/45/17 tires. Although our cars are designed/optimized to have the slight stagger, you can run all four the same without any trouble. I autox with the VDC off so racing is definately a non-issue. I did also put about 1500 miles on this setup and drove though some nasty rain storms without any trouble. From what I can tell the VDC/slip has acted normally with the setup.
