Getting passed by R32 and Cooper S...

WoW a Cooper???? As of now i own a Celica GT w/intake and exhaust and i can keep up with those little things...2 of my friends have Cooper S's. One is an '03 stock....and from the start he creeps away slowly...once we get to 80 my front is at his back tire. Then my other friend has the '05 model which has a tad more HP+ he has Remus exhaust and he does about the same damage....but at 80 he is about 1 car length ahead and still pulllin nicely. We all 3 have gone to some twisties and gone head to head. We started 3 wide in a 4 lane road and we were even....i had the inside since my car is the slowest and i won the inside on the turn....came out and i was still ahead, going into the 2nd...a tight turn the silver S was able to pass me exiting the turn....all i head was his S/C whinning hard....into the 3rd turn a a sweeping one i gained on the silver S and was bumper to bumper until his S/C began to kick in....at the end of the run i eneded up in the back but on the '03 blue Mini's behind
BTW all cars are manual

No contest at Putnam for R32 or Cooper S
I was at Putnam Park on Friday turining consistent 90 second laps and I passed the R32 at least a half dozen times and they moved me into the race group because I kept getting stuck behind the cooper S and he was holding me up so much. This was only my second day on a track and I ran 19" street toyos.
Guys,
Seems to me it's all about exit speed on the last corner before the straight. If you early apexed and he nailed it, he's gone. Once you get into the advanced class with highly experienced drivers things will tighten up a bit, in the nervous & intermediate classes (where I assume you are) it's about who hits their marks the best. One thing that's opened my eyes at these track days is the relatively equal speeds of a bunch of different cars. I've done laps with M3's, 330's, R32's, Cooper S, 944's, GTO, etc... and found that threshold braking & nailing the apex (the driver!) means more than anything on the stat sheet. Don't overthink the stats. Just hit your marks, drive smooth & consistant and the speed will come.

Very well said.
