Getting passed by R32 and Cooper S...

Yep, got passed by them. Turns weren't a problem, but in the straights they would pass me. What have you done to minimize this, other than a box of nails out of the window?

That worked for the other cars. Not for those.

I'm surprised they would be passing you on the straights. Maybe you weren't in the right gear?

R32 i could believe. Cooper S? - no.

on a similar note, i ran with Lexus GS400 (V8, btw), took it up to 80 nose-to-nose. V6 vs. V8?

don't feel too bad about R32 - http://motortrend.com/roadtests/coup...406_first_r32/

0-60 in 5.9, 1/4 mile in 14.2 @ 97.6

/edit (oops)

your sedan should do 0-60 in 5.8 - which will probably match stock R32's performance. it'll be a driver's race - and with 6MT it'll be down to your shifting. a well-driven R32 (stock, of course) would be a challenge. i say STOCK, because upgraded R32s (up to TT stage 2) are EXTREMELY fast - but then again, you're looking at up to $40,000 worth of upgrades for high-end TT setup (http://www.hpamotorsports.com/r32.htm).

now, Cooper S should've been a no-contest

0-60 in 6.5 sec, 1/4 mile in 15.5 @ 94.0

the only way you could lose to Cooper S is if you had a bad start and/or if he was /well/ modded, up to and including NOS.

but be content with knowing that you are driving a *luxury* automobile, albeit somewhat slower than some other cars on the road (to mildly put it; take M5, for example).

having said that, I see only a Z-tube in your SIG. get pop-charger, plenum, good exaust (Stillen cat-back?) & ECU reflash, and you won't be losing to either R32 or Cooper S (stock ones, at least ).

/edit: looked at the wrong car in SIG.

Funny you should metion that. I just ran against a Cooper S yesterday. He had a two car length head start at 60, and I caught him at 90, and I was pulling away fast at that point. The mini seems to run completely out of breath at about a 100, which is not necessarily a bad thing given the fact that it's basically go-kart sized. I guess it also shows how much difference there is between my 6MT and your 5AT G35X.

Firstly there is a huge difference between the 6MT and the 5AT coupes, especially on the highway...I had a 5AT first and then traded it in for a 6MT and its like night and day...there is no comparison..with the extra gear..that the 6MT definately has more power on the highway....my biggest complaint about the 5AT was its poor response dropping into 4th gear...around 70-80mph...it felt like the car had no *****

Secondly...the R32 is a piece of garbage....once you hit 80-90 range the car just drops power....I ran my friend with a stock R32 and pulled on him hard...granted I have a cold air intake and stillen dual exhaust to help me....but I would never compare my car to that little clown car...yea and in my opinion the cooper S is a clown car as well

Also that G35X sedan is carrying a hell of a lot more weight with the AWD system...which will tend to hold you back at higher speeds

yep, with stock 04 sedan, even 6MT, Cooper S has an advantage going to 60 (~6.0 for sedan vs. 5.9 for cooper). now, quarter mile would be a different story - cooper s would lose.

btw, didn't realize you were driving G35x - the added weight of AWD and the AWD itself would make your car a tad slower than similar G35. update your SIG!!!

I have a 2005 6mt sedan, not the X. This was a roadcourse (Blackhawk Farms Raceway). The strange thing is that at the dragstrip (1/4mile) I could only manage a 14.5. My best ever on the coupe auto was 14.2. The sedan feels faster, but obviously not. Of course, I'm shifting the sedan.

14.5?... uhm... i got 14.3 in my car (5AT) on a wet (ok, not wet - moist) road - the point being, that i couldn't get a good start because the tires kept slipping. and my car is ok, modded, but still not 2005.

I know this guy who has the r32 and ran a 14.1 with an intake and chip. He was sure he could do better. He then removed his seats, spare, etc. and ran a 13.7.
Bone stock, he ran consistent 14.2-14.4. Now remember that those cars are all wheel drive and can do great 60 foot.
On a highway or from a punch, the g35 6mt should easily pull on it. I think his 13.7 trap speed was only 97 mph.
