Lowering the seat in autocrossing

Has anyone lowered the seat to get a little more headroom and had a problem with them not wanting you to stay B stock? I'm not too sure if I would fit in the car with a helmet on with the sunroof closed.

no problem here, I'm a 5'6 shorty. it would be advisable to lower your seat just to get the CG down lower too.

I was talking to the guy who runs events up in New England where I am going to go to college and he said it would be illegal for me to do this and stay B stock (SCCA Solo II) technically but if I just let people know they likely would not care at all.

There is a way to lower the seat. There are a few threads at the bottom of this page in the "Similar Threads" section.

Thanks for telling me that, but I already knew it. I was asking of the legality of doing this and running in B stock class.

You can adjust the hardware on the seat to whatever limits it has available (even if it is beyond the normal settings) and still be in B-Stock. You may not remove the hardware, physically modify it, or substitute other hardware. By the way, some helmets are not quite as tall as others, and a quarter inch could make all the difference.

Do you have any specific names of helmets that arn't quite as tall? I tried on a G-Force Force 1 that my friend had but I didn't get a chance to see if I would fit in the car or not.

Hi,

I had the same problem with helmet. When I first tried it I thought "no way". But my driving instructor said I would just have too scrunch down and get used to it. I didn't believe him but he was right. Two days at the track and no problems. Good luck.

I just lowered my seat using the method listed in one of the links at the bottom of the page.

Talk about easy. less than 5 minutes. I probably gained close to 3/4"

I'm 6', and had no problem autocrossing with a Pyrotect full-face helmet. I put the seat as low as possible, but also angled the seatback forward a bit more than normal.
