2006 Colorado track day
#47
Freedom and speed are two qualities what we experienced this past weekend in LaJunta. With those, come responsibility in learning how to care for yourself and your car on the racetrack. Add education and experience to the mix and you have a very potent mixture!
Sunday was the ideal day for a track day in LaJunta. Running at wide-open throttle down the front straight, my 350Z track model reaching over 110 MPH in fifth gear on the front straight and over turns one and two. Overall speeds were up, thanks to some track revisions that opened the exit of T3 and widened the lines through both T4-5. LaJunta is now primarily a third and fourth gear course and if you like speed, this was the place to get it!
We ended up with only four Zs and a SRT4 (piloted by a former Nissan driver) and ran the driving exercises in the morning, along with a drive and walk session on the circuit itself. Lots of laughter, car talk and multiple sessions of increasing speed on our own "private" race track. Blue skies with high, scattered clouds and beautiful temps in the 60's.
Freedom and speed- sorry we couldn't get any G pilots there to experience these things...

Well, sorry that you missed the LaJunta day. As for gas mileage, I usually get around 29-31 MPG on the highway in my 350Z and might have spent $65 on gas- if that. You need to take it easy going to LaJunta because of the speed traps and that means low revs.
Last time I was at Bandimere, I raced a Boss 429 with a punched out 494 c.i. engine. It was fun for a couple of seconds...
You really missed a great day! It's truly wishful thinking at this point that a track day close to the metro area will come up. As you can see by the pics, some of the stands and banded tire stcks have ended up at LaJunta. RIP SCR...
