Those have 2 holes under the moldings on both sides... only a body shop can remove them and shave/fill the holes and that will require repaint

i say try it. if there is fading you can always buy new moldings to put on

This "step" always makes me laugh no matter how many times I read it
I'm going to remove my side moldings right now. 2006 Serengeti Sand coupe, and I've recently had certain parts fresh painted, and it seems like the original paint on the body still matches 100% perfectly with the newer parts; Always garaged!
Edit
Some paint ended up coming off with it... T-T Very disappointing, so to those of you who are planning to do this, BE CAREFUL. I do believe it is possible to avoid any type of damage, so remember to REALLY take your time with it. I don't remember if heating up the area was in the instructions, but I didn't do it, and I think that would have helped tremendously. Also, try to push inwards, towards the car with the scraper, rather than pushing the molding outwards. YOu want to get UNDER the tape/goo and peel it off with the molding. I ended up peeling most of the molding off while the goo stuck on the car. It was an extreme pain to remove... Be careful all!
