It has been a year since I installed the 6 piston Wilwood BBK. When I bought the kit, Dave at ArizonaZCar told me to turn the rotors "after awhile". Well, I did not see why until a couple of weeks ago. The brake pedal started to give a slight shake on stops, making the braking feel like cr*p. So I took my G down to Firestone and asked to have the front rotors turned, asking for only a slight trim on the rotors. They turned the trotors, said there was tons of meat left on them. They also said the front pads look to be worn about 5%! After the trim, the car stops like it is supposed to! Still very happy with the AZC BBK.

 

After a year you have only used 5% (+/-)... Wow... How many miles do you drive a month? Are you are late braker or a brake rider? How much did it cost to have your rotors turned?

 

I'm not hard on brakes. Take what the guy said with a grain of salt, I did't see the pads myself. I have 96,000 miles on my G35 sedan. I do drive it! I have put more than 13,000 miles on her since I did the install. So It seems like the Wilwoods are lasting like I expected them to. 10,000 miles on the OEM crap would call for new pads and rotor turning as well. I had the break fluid flushed and the total bill came to $190. I think they charged $90 to turn the rotors.

 

thanks for the update. I think I'm gonna be ordering the FastBrakes Wilwood package. What wheel and tires size you running with the 3mm spacer?

Update: Approaching two years of having the Wilwoods. My brakes started squealing a few months ago. I figured it must be the rears since I had the brakes inspected recently and the fronts were reported to be 5 mm. Like a fool, I just ordered a new set of rear pads and had my local guy replace them. He gave me back the originals, Stillen metal matrix pads. They were like new! OK, so I begin to suspect the fronts need replacing. NOT! I just got a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S from Discount tire. While they had the wheels off, I examined the Willwoods. Gahhhhh, they look like new!
So the truth is, the Willwoods do squeal a bit, but they last and stop on a dime.
I would have spent at least another $1000 by now on replacement OEM pads and rotors. I do feel vindicated!

 

do you remember if the rotors are much lighter than stock or about the same?

 

Holy Crap! It has been another year without needing a brake job! I'm at 108,500 miles now and the brakes are still good. Incredible!

Ever tried to replace the pad your self? if yes,
how do you compress the pistons?

 

drummer: make sure you open ur brake fluid reservoir (but keep cap on so dirt doesnt get in) then push hard and steadily and they should compress slowly- be sure to hold the opposite side while doing this so it doesnt come out further.

 

Its really very complicated to do....

 

I have the Wilwoods since Feb 2008 and I just changed my fronts a month ago....these things last forever and the rears are still have half life in them.

Car just completed 150,000 miles

 

Is the braking still as good as when the pads were new?

 

Stops on a dime and I need it with the power I am pushing
