Need help on brake

My rear right brembo brake started making really bad noise yesterday. It is not squeaking, just like mesh or grinding sound. There is scratch-like mark around the surface of the rotor, but seems no damage on the rotor. I initially thought that there might be sand dust or little rock sitting in between, but no matter how I washed the brake, the noise alway comes up. I have 45000KM on my 2004 6mt coupe. Is it the time to replace the pads?

Grinding is metal on metal,, and your rotor will loose that battle.

Dont believe me, just keep driving w/out replacing your pads; your rotor will better serve you as an ashtray than any auto part sooner or later.....

G35 Mass is correct. If you are hearing a metal on metal scraping sound, your pads are gone and you are using the metal backing part of the pad which is ruining your rotor. I would get your pads switched ASAP, if it hasn't been too long you can still save your rotors.

That scratch that you can see, is probably going to get deeper and deeper. And you said this is from the rear, it is VERY COMMON on Brembos for the rear inside pad to wear down before the outside pad. This means you cannot even see the damage being done. Remember you have 2 pads for each rotor, one on the inside and one on the outside.

This is exactly what happened to me. I checked my pads, but only ever checked the outside pad. Then I started hearing the metal on metal and I knew my inside pad was gone.
