Brakes squeeling

on my '05 sedan, the brakes squeak when they have sat for a few hours. but only when they are NOT being applied. and only for about a mile or so. i don't get it.
i pulled the wheels, and looked at the pads and rotors, and both were in good shape. plenty of meat on the pads. even after 25k miles.
i cleaned them up with some brake cleaner and sprayed some silicone on the rubber parts, and this morning it didn't squeal as often. they did still squeal for a few minutes, but i think it may have only been one instead of two or three of them that usually make the noise. can they just be dirty, and need another good cleaning? i can't see what makes a noise, if there isn't anything making contact, when the brakes are not abeing applied. and it stops squealing when they are applied. seems backwards to me........
