Brake Caliper Positioning?

Me and the fellas at work were trying to figure out why some manufactures position their Brake Calipers in different locations? Have you ever noticed how the 04' coupes Brembo Calipers are positioned in the front, and then you have Porsche and the Z06, that have their Calipers in identical positions behind the door pillars? Does anyone know why this is so? My guess would be clearance and cooling positioning?

I know Formula 1 cars position them on the bottom of the rotor to get the lowest center of gravity possible. Other than that... don't know...

Position might be a function of where the maker places their steering/tie rod stuff.
