Wedge brakes?

Anybody read about this new brake tech? Looks like some servos or linear actuators that will wedge the pad against the rotor instead of a hydraulic clamp. Sounds pretty cool, but I don't see how it can cut braking distances in half? I mean I thought brake fade mostly came from a combination of fluid evaporation and friction reduction due to the increase of heat. With this system you get rid of the fluid issue, but you still have the pad/rotor friction to deal with.

Thoughts?

I couldn't figure it out either, but for a different reason. All the technical stuff makes sense, but usually the tires give up before the brakes do (in terms of shortening distance). I don't know how they can cause the tire to not skid or lock up better than a conventional system.

Perhaps I'm missing something but that's the part of it I couldn't figure out.

Sounds like they figured out how to apply the concept of self-energizing drum brakes to a disc brake system.
