Need help on Tein Coilovers...

Right now im in the market for coilovers. I have a 2003 5AT coupe. Now i heard that the 03's and 04's came with the same suspension regardless( it wasnt sports tuned). There was not an option of sports tuned suspension and regular suspension. So im taking it that right now i have the regular suspension. The car handles ok, but im disapointed that my friends 4 door VW golf just about out handles me.

It seems that the Tein CS with the EDFC is what im looking for...Im looking for something that is going to give me an agressive look and still maintain daily driving comfort, but when i need it something that can corner harder than stock. I have heard that the Tein CS has both of these characteristics, but doesnt handle any better than the stock settings. I tend to corner hard here and there so i need something that is better than stock. Is the Tein CS really that unagressive? Also, which suspension does it compare more to, the regular stock suspension or the sports tuned stock suspension?

If someone can compare the Tein CS coilovers to the factory sports tuned suspension that would be great and if anyone could give some information on the Flex kit with EDFC as well that would be great...on the flex softess setting how does it compare with stock?

FLEX on its softest setting is still much stiffer than stock. I think CST is exactly what you're looking for.

Agreed. The Flex kit is much stiffer than the stock sport suspension but you can turn on a dime. I love the Flex kit and will never settle for just springs again. The CS kit definitely sounds like it is what would suit you.

Nismo, I'm installing a set of CS's this weekend w/ EDFC. If you are lookind at purchasing new, they have redesigned them to be a bit stiffer but less than Flex. I'm planning a write up on the install. PM me if you have any questions

I had the tein flex, sold it and just got myself a set of new CS.

The flex
handles great, alot less body roll but I think it's way too stiff for daily driving even with the softest setting (this is the reason why I sold it).

The new CS
Perfect for daily driving. Feels alot like the stock sport suspension when driving pass uneven pavement. Handles much better then my stock 04 suspension (definetly not as good as the flex though).

Get the CS if you are not planning to track your car.

Did the 04 have 2 available suspensions on it? Was there a sports tuned suspension and a basic suspension? If the CS handles like the sports tuned suspension then im all over it...!

Install isn't too difficult, there's a GREAT DIY write up with photos by Gsedan35. (granted they are for a spring swap 90% of the info is relelvant)

Also look into some sway bars, I noticed the most benefits for cornering after I installed mine. Plus they are easier/quicker to install than a full coilover set.

Just my 2 yen.
Didnt notice as much after the coilovers (but then again it was AFTER I installed the swaybars)

Oh yeah and you might have already done so, but talk to Dan. He might still be able to get good deals on coilovers for you. He had a posting up not too long ago with prices.

Ill take a look at it, thanks!

Dakkerz i took a look at my car today (long story) while it was up on jackstands and the test pipe install actually does not look to difficult. I have alot of pretty nifty tools that will help...im guess its about a 1hr 30min install time. Its still on stands so tomarrow im going to look at it more.

depending on when you're doing it let me know if you need help, I'm working the night shift this week for someone so I dont go in until 3:30.

From experience the only thing that completely stopped my install was the top bolt on the driver side cat, but from what I've heard (after I gave up of course) is that you can possibly reach it from up top.

Same goes with your coilovers when you buy them, I can help with those too if you need it. I did most of mine myself but there are a couple things that require an extra set of hands.
