BBK a waste of money???
BBK a waste of money???
if you guys read around the coupe forum, i just got a nice bonus and looking to spend part of it on the G
i want to make my G a better performer more than anything right now and im just wondeirn if a BBK is worth the 5k or more it costs. it seems like most of the people that get them already have everything else.
if i do decide to do this i want to do it right the first time and not regret it, ive heard endless is top notch when it comes to BBK, or is there something better?
ive also heard i will notice more of a difference using a softer/stickier rubber compound... i just read that and it sounds totally wrong, but anyways.

bbk's look sick and perform much better than stock brakes but unless i got a great deal on a set i wouldnt buy them. i dont do the kind of driving that would really take advantage of a bbk. plus for the 5k a new bbk costs id rather save up a lill more and get a vortech sc
A BBK is going to be a great mod to the G, but depending on what kit a BBK can add some unsprung weight to the car, which will slow the car down a bit. If your G is stock or you have just minor mods i would spend it somewhere else. For 5 grand you can almost buy a vortech kit and you can def buy a used one. If i had 5 grand to throw around i would build up the internals on the engine and then save up for some sort of FI, but thats just me...

This is a hard question for me to answer. I would have to agree with most, but it realy all depends on what your goals and intentions are with your car. If you track your car (or plan on it) then, by all means you should (and will need) to get them. If it is just a daily driver that you want performance from, then you might wanna spend the money somewhere else. If you are after the bling effect, than it is completely up to you as to how important they are to you.
It all comes down to your goals and budget, like everything else.
As far as which BBK to get, that is a whole different topic......

The OEM POS calipers weigh a ton, the Wilwood 6-pot calipers are featherweight.

Ok...here is a semi-related question:
My beer drinking philosophy when asked 16 or 23oz has always been "Go big or go home," but....
I am at 95,000k on my 03 sedan and need to replace my rotors/pads. Based on this thread I have decided to not go with a BBK as I don't go to the track with my car and it would be overkill and mucho $$$.
Should I go with a slotted (Non-BBK) rotor or just regular?
My goals are to finally get rid of the dust and squeeling, however I read that you lose the "grabby" nature of the brakes when you go aftermarket.
Any recommendations for those not going the BBK route...keep in mind I know NOTHING about Rotors, Calipers, or Pads. Do I need to replace all, or some?

That might be true and less weight is always better but it's the rotating mass that's going to make the biggest difference, not the caliper weight. If the rotors are lightweight 2 pc units, then that's where the benefit is going to come from.

Well, you could always just "upgrade" your current system. Everything except new calipers here.

Good point!!
My Wilwood setup saved me 14# frt, 6# back, rotors (14") and a total savings of 28# with calipers.
There are some nice kits out there for under $4000.00
I would do your home work on rotors that are prepared right. Great investment is you like to stop fast.

they're not a waste of money if you have intentions for them, whether it be for the bling factor or for tracking. but if you just buy them just to have them, for the sake of overkill...yah...it's a waste of money.
