well when you take account that most people pay 150 for h techs to drop their car and then those who buy the tein basic coilovers for 800+cambers, doesnt seem so cheap

ive heard only great things from the coilovers.

why didnt you just air bag your VW if you had all that cash?

You cannot just through $150 lowering springs on a car and expect too much. Once you change the travel height by using lowering springs you have to keep in mind that stock dampers are not designed to travel at the height the lowering springs are traveling. Eventually you will blow the stock dampers with adding lowering springs. Not to mention all the camber issues.

The whole idea behind coilovers is to tune the suspension to your taste and at the same time have the high-pressure dampers to withstand the degree of changes within the suspension. I like coilover because I usually only have one whip at a time so I drive it all year long……. hence (raise in the winter/lower in the summer.)

Air bags are good for low riders not cars to auto cross (like I did my R32) or daily drivers. German Air Ride Systems makes a nice set though....

you also forgot this is for a "nissan" car...not german vw. even if it's aftermarket for some reason european cars are notorious for jacking up prices for even the same aftermarket parts.

I would recommend buying a camber kit if dropping your car more than 0.75 inches.

I know we are talking about two completely different vehicles but $800 coils sound like the would ride like a hard tail Harley..
