Silicone based grease

It says in the manual that when changing brakes, silicone based grease should be applied. However, at my local auto shop, I did not find any, and brought some synthetic lubricant instead. Does anyone know if I can use it? Or is something not going to work properly?

Thanks.

you should use a brake specific grease only. normal grease will not hold up to the temps it will see. I forget the brand but I've seen it in auto parts stores, it's pretty common, it's red in a 4 to 6 oz bottle.

Yeah, if someone can point out a name for it, that would be wonderful. I found a bottle containing some red grease, but it didn't say if it was silicone based. It has some polysomething (forgot now, sorry) stuff.
