Question Axxis Ultimates vs. Metal Master (+ B-Force & Vita Nuova)

Hey all,

I'm getting ready to jump on some new pads when I install my new StopTech DRK AeroRotors. Up until now, the debate has been between the Project U B-Force (or NS) and the Endless Vita Nuova. I've heard good things about both.

After some additional research I've decided to evaluate the Axxis line of pads, primarly the Axxis Ultimates. Since StopTech bundles the Ultimates with their BBK's, I figured they are great pads. However, it appears they produce significantly more dust than the OEM Brembos. This led me to consider the next product in the Axxis line - the Metal Masters. These supposedly produce much less dust (less than OEM, I believe) at the sacrifice of performance.

Anyway, I was hoping you guys could steer me in the right direction so I can finally make this purchase:

1. Does anyone have any experiences to share with the Axxis Ultimates or Metal Masters to help me with my evaluation?

2. How about with the Project U B-Force or Endless Vita Nuovas? These pads are still in the running so I'd like to get some more opinions on those too.

I should also mention that my ultimate goal is a low-dust, low-noise pad that performs exceptionally (equal or better than OEM) during daily and spirited driving (tracked maybe two times per year) and does not excessively/prematurely wear the rotor.

Thanks in advance,
B

I've had Axxis Ultimates on my Brembos and xdrilled/slotted rotors for about 1.5 years now. They've been great for both aggressive daily driving and frequent AutoX use. I may have to put in new pads before I hit the track next month, but they've last a long time! They seem to work well even when hot, and still bite when cold. Main drawback is that they DUST horribly. A great pad and a great price, so I've already got the next set sitting in the garage.

Triple hit it on the head. I have the Ulitmates with my front Stoptech ST-40 kit. Lots of black dust, good bite cold or hot, cheap, and no noise since they come with their own anti-squeal material on the backing plate. When my rear Hawk HPS pads run out I'm going to replace them with Ultimates, dust be damned. Basically a great bang for your buck pad if you can stand the dusting.

Thanks all...

Yeah, the Ultimates seem to win in every category except dust. I think they're even pretty easy on the rotors too (per StopTech's web site). The Ultimates are definitely the leading contender. But I'd still like to hear from anyone with the Metal Masters to see how they stack up to the Ultimates, performance-wise.

And papiloco21: You have any details about your B-Force pads, especially with regard to noise and rotor wear? I already know they perform well and don't throw out a ton of dust (from what I've read).

Thanks,
B

didn't notice any difference in noise....has a little better initial bite....supposed to have less fade and last longer but I don't drive on the track so can't comment on that.....way less dust so that's good....overall they feel better than the OEMs and I would recommend em.

Latest update...

So what I'm down to now are:

1. Axxis Ultimates - concerned about excessive dust
2. Axxis Deluxe Plus - curious if less braking power than OEM Brembo pads
3. Project U B-Force - worried about killing the rotors

Any other advice?

Thanks,
B

I killed the stock rotors with project my b-force..

I have axxis ultimates and I love everything except the dusting.
It also didn't fade out much during a 6 hour drift day.

Ultimates it is...

I'll deal with the dust. Rotor wear and performance are most important to me.

Thanks everyone for the input.

if you have aftermarket wheels i would not recommend axxis ultimate. i have them and i'm about to switch them out for oem cause of the dust, they are killing my wheels

but great performance, best pad i've ever used (except for the dust)

Haven't had the other 2 but I had the Deluxe and loved them. Hardly any dust at all and good stopping power.

Escobar: I've got the 18" OEM rims, so I'm not overly concerned with shiny rims all the time. That said, I still like to have clean rims as much as possible.

Lazer: Which OEM brakes did you have, the Brembos? I'm really curious how the Axxis Deluxe Plus perform (stopping power) vs. the OEM pads in the Brembo setup.

From experience I believe you will be unhappy with the graoning and squeel noise that the metal master will create.

Many times better to replace pads frequently than rotors, both oem pads and rotors were purposely designed to be soft and low noise.

I will probably go with the Axxis Ultimates. I really want the performance, and I hear they're not bad on the rotors either. The dust I can live with.

So, one more question:

Does anyone have any comments on how hard the Ultimates are on rotors?

Thanks,
B

i also had a question.

Q: Would you go with Hawk HPS pads or Project NS pads with the stoptech rotors that come with their brake upgrade kit.
p.s. i kno they come with pads already but i think these 2 pads are better than the ones that come in the stg.2 upgrade kit. thanks
