Winter wheel and tire setup for 2007 G35 Sedan

Hey guys, has anyone come across an economical solution for snows on the new Sedan?

I'm looking for 17's w/ 225/55/17's w/ +40mm offsets.

Found a set on Tirerack w/ tires for around 1050 shipped.

Wanted to see if anyone knows if I could do better.

Also, what would be the best snow tires to get?

Thanks.

why not stick with the stock sized 215/55/17 tires, they should be cheaper and narrower tires are better for snow and rain

1050 shipped + 100-150 for installation then right?

I paid just under $1K for the following rims:
http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/whe...MINT&tc=XXX6++
$75 each for 17x7 rims.
and 4 225/55/17 Michelin Pilot Alpin 2 H rated snow tires.

Got them put on at discount tire. I got my car in November and at the time tirerack refused to sell me wheels because they can't guarantee fit.

The rims are kinda ugly, but have one thing going for them. They're universal fit rims, so they don't need to remove the bolt that's on the front rotors of the '07 G35S. Plus they were pretty cheap.

Installation of what? The tires on my car? Nah I'd do that myself, it's easy and will save me money.

From tirerack they'll mount and balance for free.

I had Pirelli Winter 210s on my last car (an Audi) and they were OK. I've heard that Nokians (not sure which model) make the best of all winter tires, but they are hard to find.

I'm leaning towards Blizzaks LM's. A friend of mine ran with those at a Watkins Glen track event with a Subi WRX Sti early in the year due to a last minute problem with his summer tires.

After watching his runs, I have no doubt they can handle the road when dry! According to him, the snow performance is not bad either.

Probably the most popular ones around here are the dunlop m3's, and the bridgeston blizzak-lm22s. They are both performance winter tires, which are good for areas that only get occasional snow, and work better than other tires in dry conditions. If you need a true winter tire, the blizzak ws-50s or micheline x-ice are good choices. I personally use Michelin Pilot PA-2s because Costco carries them and occasionally has $60 off a set of 4 which made them cheaper than any other set installed from tirerack. As far as wheels, try and pick up some used 17" sedan wheels, they can be had for cheap and still look factory. I picked up a set locally for $130.

Got my set from TireRack for about $1,400 shipped, including the pressure monitor sensors. Kazera KZ-C wheels (17x7.5) with Michelin Pilot Alpin 225/55V's all around.

We've had little snow this year, but New Jersey got slammed with freezing rain and ice the past few days, and the car handled better than I had expected. No complaints at all.

MoCoG,

Did you have to go back to the dealer to have them re-sync or initialize the new TPMS monitors on the new rims?

Do you need to run the Tire Pressure sensors? I don't feel like spending $300 on another set.

From what I've read so far, the answer is no for having to run the TPMS. Just live with the warning light until spring when you swap in the original set.

Pete, the TPMS isn't working at all on the new wheels. I had the system re-synced last Saturday, so I'm going to have to see if it's possible to check for the presence of the sensors without removing the tire. Then, a phone call to TireRack for a refund.

In hindsight, I probably shouldn't have spent the money on the sensors. I'm pretty picky about tire pressures (a relic from my auto-x'ing days), so I check them regularly.
