Just exactly how badly does the HAWK HPS squeak?

I got my bbk installed recently, and they came w/ HAWK HPS pads. The guys installing the setup warned me that the HPS squeak quite a bit.

A couple of weeks of squeak and squealing I just have to ask.... I know they squeak--and there have been people on these boards that also confirm they squeak. BUT HOW LOUDLY should they squeak?

I pull up at a traffic light and my G sounds like a SEMI TRUCK coming to a halt... they squeal LOUD (Just to beat a dead horse, I'm talking about still hearing them from inside with the windows up).

Just wanted to confirm that it is normal for them to be THIS loud.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Realized I have the HP+ ...

Hmm,

I put some HPS pads on my stock brakes, to help cut down on the brake dust.

Make sure you have done a good job of 'bedding in' the brakes, there
should be directions on the box the pads came in. Mine only sqeak/squeal
occasionally, and normally it will be when I haven't had the car out for a
few days.

Good Luck

Anyone try using that anti-squeak silicone that you spread on the back of the pad? I'm interested in the hawks myself since i have the stock brembos and they squeek like a mack too...AND the tremendous amount of brake dust as well. I was hoping to reduced the brake dust with the hawks, but i was also interested if that anti-squeek stuff would get rid of the squeek on the hawks.

Are we talking about the same thing here? Hawk HPS are supposed to be reasonably quite. Hawk HP Plus are NOT.

from Hawk's literature:

HPS: HPS Ferro-Compound [is] "Virtually noise-free"

HP Plus: "Due to the dramatic friction levels produced by this product to achieve "race-level" braking, rotor wear, noise, dust, and pad life may be affected."

A thorough bed in procedure can do a lot to reduce noise and should not be overlooked. Before you tear into everyhting, try the bed in procedure and see if it helps. Our recommended procedure is more aggressive than what Hawk recommends but it has been proven to work time and time again:

Thank you guys... these are the HAWK HPS (not the HP+), so from what's posted by Noremac, I shouldn't be experiencing this level of noise.

Stoptech, I just read the bedding procedure. When I got the job done the shop did take the car for a spin before COMPLETION (and my payment). So I would have imagined that this is for the bedding process.

Is it too late now to bed? Because it's been a good couple of weeks and I have driven the car consistently. How would a "RESET" bedding process work--or how would I test if it was done properly and the likes?

Tinman do you have the HPS too? I bet if you listened to my brakes you'd agree it isn't normal then! I wish I could do a sound clip haha.

Thanks again for everybody's help

My HPS pads are silent 99.5% of the time and when they get hot they squeak a little at very low speed.

Never a single squeek from my HPS pads, but the guy that did mine does a lot of performance stuff.

Hey hey Jigga,

You know what! I'm not sure anymore. Let me call the shop, hehe, I left the box at their place.

Hm, I might suspect that it might be a bedding issue then. Because a little bit of squeak is bearable (no prob)... but these squeak even more than I would imagine HP+ to squeak... they're loud--loud whereas I don't think it's the manufacturer's fault but more-so the install perhaps.

Yea, they are. Check and see if they used the anti-squeel lube. If not, get some on them. It'll help.

Is there a brand for the anti-squeak lube that you guys recommend? Or is there just one out there?
