Dealer says Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 too aggressive for g35 coupe. True or False?
Hello, I have a 2003 Coupe with OEM 18" wheels, it came with Michelin Pilot Sport tires.
Its time for a new set and want a upgrade, i was looking at the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 set.
The Dealer (Infiniti Glendale, CA) said they don't carry it because the PS2 tires were too aggressive for the car and that i will experience road noise.
Is this true?
BTW what other tires are good for the coupe? I am in southern california with sunshine year round, so no worries for rain/snow.
thanks for any input.

I have the same car. Although I upgraded the wheels, I went to Toyos from the PS. I'd have done the same tire even if I didn't do new wheels. Check them out. Lighter weight tire and less expensive. Michelins are good tires but overpriced in my opinion. BFG's or Bridgestones would have been my other choices before the Michelins.
Like any PREMIUM product you often pay 50% more for just a 5% superiority.
Everyone standards vary and for those that accept only the best only the best will do.
In my opinion even the most expensive tires are not good enough.

PS2's are known to be great tires but you will sacrifice some treadwear. The original PS1's were fairly aggressive tires as well so I see no problem with going to PS2's.
As far as other suggestions, it depends where your priorities are. If you want even more dry grip, something like a Falken Azenis or Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R would be even better.

I have had my PS2's on aftermarket 19's for almost 2 years now.Best tire I have ever had.How can a tire be too aggresive?
They handle great, low noise, and for me, last long.

Tires too aggressive? Tell them they are fvcking pvussies if they can't even keep tires under control...
I have PS2s. Road noise is good, tread wear is lower, but it comes at the price of grip.

Too aggressive? That just doesn't make any sense. You should ask them to define what "aggressive" means. Just to see how they respond.
And if they say that the tires will wear down too fast, then either argue that the Treadwear is 220 vs 140 on the potenzas or argue that they would make more money off of you if they sold you the ps2.

That guy at your dealership is full of BS. I have found that most (90+%) of the service advisers at my local Infiniti dealerships are completely clueless about upgrades (including alternatives to OEM tires, tire plus sizing, etc.) and about the huge aftermarket world of the 350Z/G35 in general. The turnover rate of these advisors is ridiculous. I just got a new service adviser AGAIN
(I've lost count now... I only had the last one for a couple services), because my last one went to a Toyota dealership. So, she just took some brief class(es?)/training w/ Toyota and is now probably pretending to be as knowledgable about the Camry as she was about my G.
LOL! Now to your question about the Michelin PS2's...
No, I don't think it's "too aggressive" compared to the original OEM Pilot Sports. If performance is your priority, it's considered one of the best street (non-R compound) tires available. I'd also recommend the Bridgestone RE050A Pole Position. It's the #1 rated tire in the "Max Performance Summer" category on tirerack.com and it's considerably cheaper than the Michelin PS2.
