rear axle issue- need help quick

I was just changing my brakes f/r and everything was fine till i discovered something scary. As i took the rear driver side wheel off, i noticed that the rotor hand the hub had some play in it. At first i thought it was just the rotor and i was seeing things, but once the rotor was removed, i discovered that the hub itself had some play to it. It was moving pretty freely and you could easly see there was a problem in it.

The only time the rear end on the car was touch is when i went to the dealer for the TSB on the rear axle click. I never bothered checking the work and now after little less then a year i discover this.

I am not certain as to what could have happened. I can think of the nut on the hub wasnt tightened properly or not torqued to the proper specs. The bearing inside the hub could have worn out or became damaged somehow ( possible due to the faulty work during TSB. Also, a very remote chance of premature wear.

has anyone here experienced such a problem? If so, how severe is it?
for point of reference its a 2005 with just about 30k miles

no i do not hear any sounds at all. But the hub moves freely. the passanger side is good however.

I have notice a hum when going 80+ coming from the rear... now i'm wondering if it has to do with the hub not being solid

have him check it out. The first time i had that was due to lack of greese in the axle. It was an easy fix at the dealer. But what i have now is a bit more then the click i had a while back(which is what your friend has)

well just as i thought... wheel bearing failure (premature wear) i did not see the extend of the damage but it was pretty bad according to the dealer.

Goes to show you that you should always keep an eye on your own car.
