Brake Question
Brake Question
Whats up guys? I got a quick question
Im swapping out all 4 rodors and pads with performance rodors and pads. Should i change out the brake fluids (i heard that you should do that once a year or so is this true?) if so how do you do that? Thanks in advance for the help.

Absolutly! I try and change my fluid at least once a yr., as it is hydroscopic and trehds to pick up moisture.
Easy to flush and bleed while you are doing the rotors and pads.
I like the ATE fluid as it comes in blue and gold, making it very easy to alternate flushes.
i think yearly is a little much, especially if you NEVER track your car. sure, brake fluid is hydroscopic, but it will only pick-up enough moisture if you CONSTANTLY open and shut the filler cap (which you shouldn't do, unless you actually have to fill your fluid, which you shouldn't need to unless you have leaks). looking at the FSM, it doesn't even give a maintenance interval for brake fluid change out (unlike oil, and engine coolant).
now, if you're a die hard racer who takes the car to the track regularly (several times per season), then you would probably be bleeding your brakes after every track session anyway.
if you think you're a "spirited" driver or participate in auto-cross every now and then, then annually may be a good idea. occassional track sessions in a year may warrant you to bleed your brakes before the event.
but, again, if you're just goin' back and forth to work or the grocery store, bleeding brakes annually is definitely NOT necessary.

one thing that i think i missed, and i want to make clear: bleeding the brakes has absolutely NOTHING to do with removing the moisture from the brake fluid. bleeding the brakes is only for removing air from the system. if you are worried about the fluid absorbing water, then you need to change it (which means "out with the old, and in with the new").
