Search did not help me, break question
My car is a 2003 coupe, I have 25k miles on it. The rear brake pads need replacing. I went to Brake Check, and they said $525 because they need to put new rotors on the rear. I said I doubt I need new rotors, but they said they have to because the metal is too soft to be machined and they have to put new rotors on all the G35's cause otherwise there will be too much squeaking.
So it this true? These rotors can't be machined? what is my best option right now aside from taking it to dealership? and last, can i get this covered under an extended warranty that i bought when i got the car?

brakes arent covered under warranty as they are a wear and tear item. Do you have brembos? If you do, the shop is correct and those rotors are not recommended to be turned. If you dont have brembos then the shop is full of it, you can turn the rotors unless they are under factory specs. I turned all 4 of my rotors last week.

That's Brake Question........!
That is the question, brembos or not? If not don't continue to use the
OEM brake pads......very low quality Nissan crap! Switch to Hawk HP's
and do the break in process and you'll be one happy G pilot. Do a search
for the process to break in those new pads! Good Luck!!

They are not Brembos. Thanks for the advice. SO pretty much a friend and I can replace the brake pads and go to an autoshop and have the rotors turned if they need to be? Or am i better of buying new rotors on all four. Like some F1 cross drilled, slotted rotors... I might not even need to turn them right, cause i only have 25000 miles.
ps what about hawk ceramic brake pads?

You could do that, but you'd have to take apart all the brakes and take the rotors to the shop in another car to get them turned, then bring them back and put the car back together. This is IF the rotors have enough meat on them to turn.

Yeah, but these are his rear rotors...they can probably be turned. Rear rotors don't get alot of wear and tear...I think I heard the G brakes 75% of the force in the front.

ok. original thickness for any rear standard brake system on 2002-2005 g35's is 16mm. or 0.062992in. the minimum thickness or discard is at 14mm or 0.55118in. it's not a whole lot of meat on there but it is what it is.
as long as they are above the discard it's ok. but some specialists say it's safer to leave at least 15thousands of an inch from discard. so when you turn the rotor you end up with 0.56618in. or 14.38mm. of thickness.
