Higher mileage G’s, any suspension creaks or crackles?

Lately, I believe, my suspension is creaking. The ’03 6mt coupe has 67k mile on her. The sound is a loud metal on metal sound and it is similar to a “pop rocks” crackle. It happens when I brake medium or harder. The reason why I believe it is a suspension problem versus a brake problem is because it does it over some bumps, but not all. Soft braking does not make a sound. It is really hard to put the car in a situation, other than braking, to make this sound. BTW I do have AF sways, rotors, pads, SS line and painted Brembo housing. Could it be the bushings? Thank for the advice.

Why rubber hoses and rubber bushings and rubber isolators are wear items and not under warranty they wear and need frequent replacement.

There are hundreds of rubber components most of which are all done by 120k, some by 30 or 60k.

i had a nasty creak/clunk from my front right radius arm and was similar to yours when it happened, braking and some bumps..... some how over the years it has became loose (or it was loosened when my tranny was removed)...but i took my impact gun to it the day after i bought a new radius arm, figured what the hell why not and problem solved, returned the part to nissan the next day..... maybe just try and snug everything up down there...oh any my car has 70k on it and was slammmmed for awhile(i have no lower control arm bushigns left, theyu just move) and i have no odd suspension noises...aside from the one mentioned....but its gone now.

I just got an inspection of the noise. The Infiniti service tech said that the noise was from my front Hotchkis sway bar bushings being warn. He did point out that there is no metal retainer on the outer side of the sway bar, around the bushing, and the inner retainer is not up against the bushing. He concluded this after he tried to convince me that it was an aftermarket brake pad problem. I have Hawk HPS on StoptechAeros with OEM brembos.

This opinion sounds wrong to me as the noise is the loudest when the braking/suspension force is applied in a straight-line. I believe, there should be little stress on the AM sways during this situation. I am now getting a second quote from another Infiniti service department.

78cj5,

Thanks for the info. I will have them look at this at the next service visit. The noise is so embarrassing; I don’t want to drive anymore.

Crossdrilled/slotted rotors?

My previous cars had crossdrilled/slotted rotors When i brake near a jersey wall, with the windows down, i can hear that crackle pop noise when i brake. If that's the sound your refering to, it's normal.

Yes, they are drilled rotors. But the sound is very loud and does not happen when the brakes are pushed lightly. It also happens when the brakes are not being pushed at all.

Listening to the noise more, I have noticed that the sound frequency decreases as I decelerate. This can only mean that it is a brake problem. I paid top dollar for these Stoptech Aero rotors and Hawk pads and they sound like *hit.

Pretty normal as drilled make that whirring noise especially rears.
