Question Tein S-Tech, Basic, Suspension Questions!

Hi,

Ive lowered my previous Hondas, and been quite pleased with the performance...but am not looking to race the G35 coupe yet. On my S2000 I had Tein springs and Koni Yellows, lowered about 1.75" and did not need a camber kit.

I am reading alot on here, trying not to be too noobish, so I dont ask dumb questions...but since I am still new to Nissan/Infiniti Ill ask.

I am thinking that Id like the lowering of Tein S-Tech spring....from what I am reading from all of you, its about a 1.5" drop uniformly front and back (I dont like the significantly lower front look). Is that correct?

I am also under the impression that I will need a rear camber kit - what are the specs on the negative camber that I would have with S-Techs without a kit? Am I really going to kill my tires fast and sacrifice handling alot without one? Just wondering.

Also, how long will my stock shocks last with the S-Tech, or should I get shocks asap? I do have a priority of decreasing body roll and improving handling, though I am not going to auto-x the car just yet, so I dont need $1500 coilovers. Should I get Tokicos? I see alot of people getting a simple Tokico Shock, Tein Spring setup. I dont particularly want to get shocks yet, but if I am going to blow my stockers, I might want to.

I see the next step up alot of people choose is the Tein Basic Coilover setup? I dont know much about this - is it adjustable? Whats the pricing? $600-$700?

Sorry for the long post - whenever someone asks a suspension question I know its much easier to answer if you guys can get a feel for what I am looking for.

Thanks much,
Rob

Trying to ramp up the performance of a G35 with just lowering springs is going after mission impossible. The aftermarket just doesn't offer spring rates that are that much stiffer then oem or they blend in progressive spring rates with wide rate springs between intial and final rates. Giving up shock piston stroke also starts to get you into issues with running on the bumpstops too offten, not the way to get things done. I realize your not going to ask a lot of your suspension right away, but don't expect the same upgrade on a G35 that you got with your S2000. A better choice, without even overdoing things would be to look into several mild drop 350Z lowering springs with Tokico D-specs or pony up coilover money with a quality name brand in mind (Cusco, HKS, KW, ect), which would lower the chance of buying stuff twice to get what you really want.

Basics are a cost effective choice for some and a number of review's exist here and one my350Z over the years where owners speak well of them. However, in reading those review's over the years, reading between the lines some do feel that they don't offer the best dampning performance. Since they are a popular choice, you might want to go to the regional forum here that deals with our area and do a post requesting a ride along with a owner that has them installed.

Okay - so maybe a 350 S-Tech paired with those Tokico D-Specs sounds good - would I also get 350Z D-Specs - or does that not matter? Will I need a camber kit? I dont mind a little negative camber - but if I am killing 10k off my tires, and and putting alot of stress on my suspension, then ill bite the bullet.

Thanks!

Get 350Z D-specs.

Alignment will not be within G35 coupe specs, but they would be within 350Z specs, which are slightly more aggressive. I recommend also adding on a front and rear adjustable sway bar set from Hotchkis, EVO350 or Eibach.

i've got an 03 coupe and i run the d-spec tokico's and the tein s-techs.

The drop looks VERY clean and bottoming out didn't become an issue until i started putting on gt spec chassis braces.

I needed to add spc adjustable control arms in order to get my front into spec, while the rear got into spec, but i'm sure an adjustable camber kit for the rear wouldn't hurt.

I've had some issues with the spc arms so far so you might want to choose a different company if you decide to get some adjustable control arms.

All the help i can give you The adjustable stillen sway bars are great and helped with creating a more solid suspension for my g.

The strut tower brace made my g's ride much much much SMOOTHER. Less bouncy clunky front end. (i got the richies stb v.2)

ALSO i strongly recommend getting gt spec front/rear tie braces, 4-point chassis brace, and the rear lateral brace. I wasn't able to get the rear tie brace on because of my Fast Intentions exhaust. But the rear lateral brace works great.

what year g do you have? and is it a coupe?
