hello boyos!!! So my tires are almost completely bald. I live in so cal so im not too worried but im shopping around for some tires. At tirerack I saw the BFgoodrich gsports for $98 bucks a piece. Does that seem right, looks pretty cheap to me. I was wondering if anybody has ridden on them on this great forum! I was thinking about 225/50/17 too. any thoughts on that? Anyway the kuhmos look good too, im not too worried about all weather as it never even rains here anymore.

Also i was curious about people who have ordered from tirerack before. Is it cheaper to go that route and have them brought to a local shop to have them installed or is it just cheaper to have the local shop order them with their markup and do it that way. The shipping is like 50 bucks so after installation and everything it's like $500 if i'm guessing right. Let me know if i'm totally off. Thanks gurus.

I would make a couple of calls before you order them online. Tire rack is good but there are many shops that wont do the mounting & balancing process unless you buy the tires there. You don't want to get stuck driving way out of your way to find someone to do you install them, so check around and if you find someone then buy them online!

Falken makes a really nice looking tire.So is the Toyo Proxes.But they might be a little more than you wanted to spend.

I ran a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and they were incredible. Check it.

My tires are Michelin Energy MXV4 S8, stock specs. Really quiet, smooth and great for rainy/slick conditions. However they are not cheap, $139 per tire when I bought them a year ago from the local Discount Tire shop. They've been driven for the last 11,400 miles, and have 6/32" tread left. Pretty good treadwear.

i have the Kumho Ecsta ASX in the 225/50/17. huge improvement over the oem turanza. great tire so far, great price too.

i just bought a pair of the Goodyear ResponsEdge and they are nice and quiet, seem to have nice grip to them. Cheaping out on tires is not worth it and these are only $138/ea

I second the Kuhmo Ecsta SPT; they are less expensive, have long treadwear, and have excellent consumer ratings on tirerack.com. Those are what I'm buying next week. Also, if you live near a Discount Tire/Americas Tire store, they will usually match online prices (including Tire Rack) and you can get the tires/mounting/balancing/warranty from them.

with tires, cost is not necessarily comensurate with quality. for example: Pirelli's tend to be way overpriced and perform similar (or worse) to a lower-cost tire, like a Yoko etc...

a bit of research can reveal how competitive tires are across the different pricepoints.

you get what you pay for in many walks of life, however this is not always one of them...

All that is keeping your car from sliding off the road is that small contact patch of tire. Don't "cheap out" on your tires. Buy decent rubber.
