Rotors and warranty

I took my G in last week for some break shuttering issues. I am told the rotors are warped. I do have 45K on the car which is 12 months old(yes I know, it is a lot). These are the originals and have almost no pad wear and the rotors have not been turned. The dealer says they are not warrantied, but I swear guys hear have had them replaced under warranty with frequency???? I had spoke to another dealer a couple weeks prior trying to get a quick diagnosis as I was driving by it, he told me that infiniti makes the decision based on pad wear. Again my pads lookalmost new. I want to argue the warranty side of things, but ceratinly do not want to be unfounded in my argument. I do understand the mileage thing but again virtually no break wear and they tell me they cannot turn the rotors. Input is appreciatted., Merry x-mas to all. Oh by the way drove the G in a hellacious snow storm last night back from VT, took 5 hrs. of AWD XTC. Yes he skiing @ Okemo was stellar, best we have seen this early in the east in many calendars. Merry Christmas to all.

Rotors are not covered under warranty. Only 03-04 had the brake warranty for 3yr/36K miles.

Especially after 45K miles. Just have them turned.

Rotors do not warp, but they do wear unevenly (piston side wears quicker than non-piston side).

If you're at 45k miles and this is truly the only set of pads you have had on the car, chances are very good that have warn the rotors down past the point by which they can be turned/lathed.

I killed my stock rotors at 13k with normal commute driving. I decided to upgrade to some Racing Brake rotors for about 35%less than it would have cost to replace with stock rotors.

Yeah, they said they could not be turned, $575 to replace! Just kind of pisses me off when they ask did you buy the car here and when you say no, they say maybe they will warranty where you bought it! Truth is I lived in a totally different area when I bought it! Needless to say a statement like that had me wondering if it would warranty or not. Again Infiniti of Nashua told me it was a question of pad where, if the pad had x amount of pad left they would , if not, they won't. So if it is on my nickel, should I go with aftermarket rotors , if so what. Don't get me wrong I am not trying to scam, I think 45k is not bad in this car for brakes, but again, they told me virtually no pad wear!

When I spoke to the Infiniti service manager about my brakes, he noted that this is a common issue with all year G's, but that it was not a warranty item.

This is what I upgraded with:
Front > http://www.racingbrake.com/G35_non_S...161-141-01.htm
Rear > http://www.racingbrake.com/G35_non_S...169-111-01.htm

I got a good deal through a forum member here, too.

Not flaming, but are you sure about that? My understanding is that excessive heating/cooling of rotors, can cause them to warp (e.g. lots of stop/go traffic, driving like you're in an auto-cross, etc).

They said the rotors were too thin to turn or the rotors cannot be turned? As long as they are not below minimum thickness, they can be turned.

Also, warranty work is warranty work, no matter where you bought the car. It seems that dealership representative is an ***.

I just got a set of rotors from www.r1concepts.com. PM Sam, his user name is r1concepts, and see what he can do for you. Regular blanks, like you have now, should not be very expensive.

Yes. I am sure. Here is a white paper on the fact > http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp...rakedisk.shtml

Something does not jibe here. Did you buy the car new? I find it inconceivable that the pads would show as little wear as you say at 45K miles. At that mileage the pads should be shot to hell and the rotors should have plenty of meat to allow them to be turned. In any case 575 is way too much. Get on Tire Rack and order Hawk HPS pads and plain OE replacement rotors mfd by Brembo, install yourself, and save a lot of money.

45K is decent mileage for a set of rotors. I am shocked that you haven't changed the pads yet. Rotors can be warped by shops using air guns and not using the right torque specs on your lugs.

more likely that they will strip a lug before they warp the rotor

Warping is very common especially on aftermarket low grade cast iron. Uneven pad compund film transfer is even more common.

Nissan chose soft grade cast iron to wear faster to stretch the possibility of warping.

Really, almost no wear on these in truely 12months 45k. Understand I travel mostly in northern new england and sometimes cover 500-600 miles in a day depending on meetings etc. But I have trained myself to see breaking before it is needed and slowing down with gravity and engine breaking, which the G does well(of course this is part of the reason we so 22mpg.
