Thumbs up Compression Rods replaced - *different* part info ?

[from OP: PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE THREAD. My orig post has some errors!]

After enduring for way too long the wretched clunking and creaking noise commonly attributed to front end compression rods and bushings, I finally took my 2004 to another dealer in town (Tysons) just before the warranty ended. It only took two trips, but they agreed to replace the parts. Hurray! Noise problem solved! There is blessed quiet going over bumps and aprons.

Here's the new info. The part numbers for the compression rods seems to have changed yet again, and my service adviser says they are now made of steel, and no longer of aluminum. I'm not totally convinced of this, but the rods are indeed painted black, and are not the former shiny aluminum color. See the pics here to judge for yourself. Why steel, if that is in fact been changed? Aluminum is very stiff, but is more susceptible to fatigue and cracking, so that may have been contributing to the noise. Most of us were convinced that the noise comes from worn bushings, and this may still be partially true, but...speculate yourself.

The "new" latest part numbers are:

ROD COMPL-COMPRESSIO-54468-AC71F (Qty 1)
COMPRESSION ROD, FRO-54469-AC71F (Qty 1)
[OP: Per info from Jason@Riverside, this part numbers are for the G35X, not the G35 RWD.]

In addition, they required:
BOLT-STOPPER-40038-AQ301 (Qty 2)

Interesting. I just replaced the compression rods on my coupe and although they were revised, they still look like the older ones. Obviously, a difference between coupe and sedan. Additionally, the turn radius stops are integrated in the rods I just installed. Anyway, congrats on being noise free again.

You have a Sedan??

Your Sedan does NOT look like it is an AWD G35X...

Those part numbers only apply to the AWD G35X?

?????

CONFUSED?!?!?!?!?!

Please send me your VIN Number...

The service file goes from a AC70A number to a AC70F

AC71A went to AC71F only for the G35X!!!@!@!@!

Looks like cast iron to me. I hope the non-x parts are still aluminum.

Non-X Parts are still the same as I had posted in the other thread on this subject...

If you look at his "BLACK" arms that were installed, where the stopper bolt is, you can see what looks like nice shiny aluminum.

I had thought of that. So do you think it's just black paint? Why would they do that?

I think they come painted black... Unfortunatley I do not have any G35X compression rods in stock (shows how many we do...). I ordered one just to take a look at and hold in my hands...

I wonder if we could just get new bushings pressed into the old arms?

Here is an image of the parts system pulling up the CORRECT part numbers from your VIN number...

Name: 108282public.jpg

Size: 77.4 KB

This shows the most recent part numbers as 54468/54469-AC70A

When that part number is put into the parts system it goes to a service file which calls for the bolt and a AC70F number...

Seen here...

As you can see from the date on my parts disc, 1, 1, 08. it is the most up to date INFINITI has to offer...

Good luck and keep us up to date with what happens!

Factory bushings are not avialble on their own. Would have to find a size...

But the cost and down time of getting new bushings, pressing them in and out (which isnt the easiest). will end up costing as much as a new arm if not more!
