Banging!

I got a gtspec mid chassis brace on and right now whenever i give it some gas, the exhaust pipe keeps banging into the chassis brace. What should i put in between the exhaust pipe and the brace in order to stop this loud banging noise?

I used to have a gt-spec brace on my old car and had the same problem. I had to get some large washers to bring the brace down a bit.. This solved the problem.

They were about an inch in diameter and I put two in for each bolt.. I used a total of 8 washers.

I had the washers on hand.. I would assume there under a buck each..

With the washers it looks stock and will never hit or rub and is not spendy..
Either one would fix it..

They were thicker washers.. I would say maybe 1/4 inch.

So the heat wrap would make it so that you can't hear the sound at all? I was thinking of doing a combination of both. This way the brace isn't as low with the spacers so i don't scrape more and have the heat wrap as a safety percaution. how much clearance do i need between the exhaust and the brace?

The spacers should not drop it so much that is would hit.. Mine with the washer sat the same as the stock one.. With the spacer it should be spaced enough that it will have plenty of clearance.

The heat wrap will work great also. You should not be able to hear it.

wait, what are you trying to say with the washer sitting the same as the stock one? Are you saying that the brace sat the same w/the washer that came with the brace? or are you saying something about the xhaust or what? So you're saying that a 1/4 in thick washer eleminates the sound completely?

also, you said you used a total of 8 washers? does that mean a total of 1/2 in. space is added?

The brace is going to hang lower with washer spacers. If you're lowered and daily driving...good luck. Maybe try some shorter exhaust hangers or stiffer ones.

um, im trying to look for the cheapest fix. How much are the hangers? probably more than heat wrap and/or washers right? Thanks for the help though. I appreciate it.
