Squeaky, Grinding Brakes!!
Squeaky, Grinding Brakes!!
I have an 04 g35 sedan which i bought 4 months ago... there has been loud periodic squeaking from the front brakes, I took the car into the dealership twice now and same reply. "your brakes are fine we checked the pads and they are still very good, it is a characteristic of the g35s to have these noises." but seeing as every time i take it in they give me a loaner car and i never hear their brakes squeak or grind i know something has to be wrong.. What can i do to fix this, should i upgrade or just replace the pads myself>?
A very common problem. In many cases, the OEM pads just will not be quiet, even though they are at spec and are performing fine as brakes. I got so tired of my embarassing squeaking (sounded like a 1972 schoolbus), that it motivated me to get Hawk pads. Problem solved.
so now i am being told that the brakes that are on there currently are aftermarket brakes and who ever installed them didn't put the shims and hardware kit on and that is what is causing the noise.. Costing me 600 is there an easier cheaper solution to this?
Buy your pads online (and rotors if you want) and take it somewhere else to get the work done. I bought pads and rotors online, and had them installed at a friend's NTB shop for $500 total....
What....?
You mean to tell me you took your '04 to the dealership and they said nothing
about you having aftermarket brakes? How is that possible? The '04 brake
pads are trash, don't even think about going OEM....mine lasted 10K miles
and my wheels had dust on them an inch thick (well almost) If you need new
disc/pads check out out Marketplace, someone always has a deal going. When you have the new pads installed make sure you use the break in procedure, eliminates the squeek common with brakes that aren't broken in
correctly....do a search under brakes....Good Luck!
