compression rod creaking noise!

I recently took my g in to the dealership I bought my car from to get this fixed and they said they took it out for a spin and couldn't hear what i was talking about (the old rocking chair creaking noise) and then they took it in the shop and couldn't find anything wrong with the compression rods. they said since it was raining that day it was probably lubricating what I was hearing and they want me to bring the car back when its not raining. I mean I dont know much about cars but if one was a quality mechanic wouldnt you be able to see something wrong when you take a look underneath or no?

They would see cracks in the compression rod bushing. In any case tell them its a well documented issue and that you would like your compression rods or bushings replaced. End of story.

Its a tricky one to actually get the dealer to replace. You may have to actually drive the car with a service tech if possible. Find a speed bump or an entrance to something and go over it at about 3-5 mph with windows down, radio off, and you will reproduce it. IIRC i never heard the compression rod creak while driving in wet conditions, but it was very noticeable in cool dry weather. There is a TSB on it that you can search for on here, and then print out and show to the service manager. Maybe try another dealer if there is another nearby?

Mine creak all the time. I make a point to inspect them when I'm under the car but they look "okay" to me. I guess I'll try spraying WD40 on them and see what happens. BTW. Is it the big round mount that creaks or the other side? ie.. ball joint?

Yeah i was thinking of having them drive with me to hear the noise, not really an option of going to another place because i have a warranty there. I just dont understand why they werent able to see the cracks when they lifted the car up. I asked them specifically if they checked the compression rods, bushings, sway bar etc. and they said yes. anyway I was probably going to just say to replace them anyway, dont know how that will go over with them though.

i just had these replaced. the dealer wanted $900+ to do it. i promptly informed him of my extended warranty. even so, that sounds insanely high priced. when i walked in, i specifically asked them to look at the compression rods and that i hear squeaking when slowly going over speed bumps. just out of curiosity what was everyone else quoted to repair this?

i just heard it the first time in my car today!... it is the first cold day since i bought it 2 months ago and i hit 2 speed bumps and it made the noise both times... do you guyz think i should take it in to be replaced... i have warranty but one thing... every time i take it in they seem to try to make some **** up about how it is supposed to do everything.. like my car has a rattle from the exhaust at idle and when cold and they say that G35s are loud and its normal.. also my car shifts into 3rd really really hard and they say that as long as it doesnt slip they cant do anything about it

I had this problem arise about a month after buy my 05x. Car had about 40k on it. My dealer didn't look surprised when I told him there was a loud creaking noise coming for the front of my car. He simply responded that my compression rods were shot and that he sees this in over 50% of the 05x's (I'm assuming other models as well).

I researched this issue back when it happened. It seems most people were quoted $800-$1200. Something about the bushing tearing/cracking and supposedly the new rods were revised and you shouldn't have the same problem twice...yeh we will see.(I'm rabling)

I recall some sponsor on here was able to hook people up with the revised rods for a reasonable price. I guess the install is straight forward and takes an hour tops if you know what you are doing.

I've gone about 20k on mine in the past 8 months...so far no issues...although I swear it clunks now that the temperature here has dropped.

I do have a sqeaking noise again, but it is no where near as loud (lasts a second or two after i run over a bump). Supposedly it is shot weather stripping (according to my stealer).

If you search this forum, it is probably the most talked about issue on the car (along with oil consumption and flimsy brakes).
