Thinking out loud - Brake question

So I am wondering two things here...
Firstly how many piston callipers are the stock brembo's front / rear?
Is it worth upgrading and if so is this possible -->

Get new larger calipers and rotors for the front and move the existing front callipers to the rear??

The things you think about when money IS an object.

Thanks!

1. 4 front 2 rear
2. only if your driving justifies it.
3. That's a possibility, but you'll need a custom brackets for the calipers.

To maintain brake balance, you're gonna need a pretty hefty front caliper and rotor. It would probably be more economical for you to just upgrade to a readily available 6/4 piston setup than to customize a setup using your current front Brembo as your new rear.

Thanks for the info!
Bearing that in mind, I might as well go with an aftermarket set up....or those g37 akebonos + bracket

are the G37 6/4 piston?

no the g37 is 4/2 just larger dimensions for the rotors and calipers (incl. pistons).

what is it you are looking to achieve with your brakes?

If you're seeking 2pc increased performance I suggest this:

for a little less than a 4-wheel BBK you could get 4 OEM-sized 2-pc slotted rotors (also drilled or drilled/slotted rotors), more aggressive pads, lines and fluid and probably have equal or better braking ability than some bbk's on the market. That all would probably cost around $1500

If you want a flashy system then I suggest Stoptech, Rotora, Endless or Megan for a 4-wheel BBK, but those are all $3000 or more.

Yes thats only on the sports suspension package with the 4-piston/2-piston Akebono brakes which is available on both the G37 coupe and sedan now..

I think the standard brake package for the newer G35 and G37 is 2piston fronts and 1-piston rear clamp/sliding style calipers.

The OP was considering upgrading to the larger Akebono brakes of the G37 which are larger than the G35-brembo package, which he currently has. The upgrade to the larger brake probably would be nice in terms of performance and looks, but it will have some affects on wheel fitment and such that do not parallel the fitment of the 03-04 brembo wheel/tire package.

Thats why I suggested just upgrading the OEM hardware with some nicer higher performaning parts. The cost of front and rear 2pc rotors plus pads, lines and fluids for the OEM brembo package would be about the same as doing a front only BBK or G37 Akebono brake upgrade and may provide the look and performance the OP is looking for.

I would think that upgrading to the parts I mentioned above plus some functional brake cooling would be more than adequate for most track days and certainly street driving.
