Aftermarket shocks

I have a 2004 G35 coupe and I'm thinking about buying Espelir springs from a 350Z which will lower my car a good amount. I have about 50,000 miles on my car, should I buy aftermarket shocks? I've searched the topic and I've seen mixed opinions. I don't want to spend more than I have to, but I also want to stay safe as this is my DD.

If I need new shocks, what would you recommend? Koni is very expensive (at least for me)...are there any that aren't as much? Thanks.

Matt

I just installed them(HP's for G35 application) with Tein H-Tech's (350z application) last week and think their great. The whole setup feels "sportier" without the harsh ride.

I was in the same predicament you were in as I have about 56K miles on the car and didn't want to spend a whole lotta $$$. I went with the Tein / Tokico combo for $460. Not bad for what you get. Not a lot of people had this set-up so I decided to take a plunge as I had great results in the past(91 MR2 with Eibach Prokit w/ Tokico Illumina's, and (97 240sx with Tein S-techs with HP's).

The way I see it, when we do decide to change and or come up with the cash we can prolly sell our setup for at least half and upgrade to coilovers at a later date.

Bringing this thread back from the dead...I'm going to finally order these shocks soon. I will let you all know my experience with them.

Dude. type Tokico D spec or something in the search engine. Probably over 50% of those that are on lowering springs only run these.

Or read the sticky up top.

Yeah I've only heard good things. I'm buying Espelirs from my friend and then I'm buying the struts.

Espelir 350Z progressive springs 10mm drop F&R
Spring rates 386/515 (rear rate IMO is too high for all oem shocks, Z or G)

Tokico has outright said, "D-spec shocks have a spring rate limit of 450lbs", being that the HP is a lessor shock, it is not going to have a higher rate limit then the D-spec shock.

IMO,

1. Pick a different spring

2. Run the Espelir front springs, but install oem Z revised rear springs on cut down oem upper spring seats.

3. Ignor Tokico's advise and run 350Z D-specs (meaning skip the HP's).

I've recently been considering buying a set of 06+ headlights before doing a drop...I have some condensation that I would like to get rid of.
