SS Lines

Hey guys. I have Project Mu Pads and cross drilled rotors and breaks are awesome for street, but when I am doing twisty runs they get a bit soft. I wanna get some ss lines made by Russel, but not sure if they are any good. Has anyone tried these ss lines & are all of them the same? I will also be doing a complete flush w/ Dot 4 break fluid made by ATE.

Which PMU pads are you running? Also, what fluid are you using, and when is the last time you flushed it all out?

SS lines will change the feel of the brakes period, but not prevent fade. If your brakes are getting soft, then something is giving; I don't think SS lines are what you're looking for.

I am running the Project MU B-force pads that I actually bought from you guys. The fluid is OEM and I have never flushed it since I've had the car for a over a year and half. I was going to go with ATE brake fluid DOT 4.

Sounds like you need to do the fluid.

See how it feels after the fluid exchange, and you should be okay. If you smell the brakes, but the pedal is fine, you need higher temp pads.

I think I will do the flush first then. What fluid would you recommend? I read online that ATE DOT 4 is pretty good stuff & that BMW uses this fluid as their OEM brake fluid. How much does Infiniti normaly charge for a brake fluid flush?

Infiniti usually charges about $80-90 for a fluid flush using their equipment/fluid - may be tough for them to switch their pressure bleeder over to Super Blue (which is a very good fluid, BTW).

Any DOT4 fluid meets the same standards, but my personal choice is Motul RBF600. ATE will do just fine if you already have it.

Since you do a lot of spirited driving, I'd recommend you bleed the brakes at least once a year. Most race cars bleed the brakes every race, etc.

How hard do you drive?

My maintenance is as follows:

Oil change every 3000
Diff fluid change every 6000
Tranny every 15000
Brake fluid every 6 months.
All other fluids every 12 months (coolant, power steering, etc)
Pads/tires as needed.

Now my maintenance will seem excessive to most, but I also drive harder than most. Work hard play hard; drive hard, maintain hard (does that make sense?)

Once I go FI, the oil change will be every 2000; my previous FI cars had their oil changed every 2000.

I also have analysis done on the oil, diff, and tranny fluids by Blackstone with every change; this will let me know FAR ahead of time if anything is going awry.

I only use premium fluids (full synthetics only).

My philosophy on maintenance is that it is cheap insurance. If you drive an expensive car, why are you cheaping out on maintenance? Do you think Porsche and Ferrari owners cheap out? Do you use regular gas?

Thanks for all the input guys. I do a lot of driving sometimes for work & my G is my DD. Since the new motor, I haven't driven it hard only once after 1500 miles, but I do drive pretty hard @ times. I am going to take your recommendations Mike. I am going to flush my diff fluid for sure & I already ordered ATE, so we'll see how that goes. Again, thanks.

Just a FYI, factory maintenance schedule for diff fluid is 30k. Unless you push your car regularly, 30k should be fine; 15k if you really love your car

Let me know how the brake fluid change goes!

If the pads are fading, then you'll want to go 1 step up which is the HC+ (which also happens to be what I use).
