2005 Infiniti G35 Sedan Brakes
2005 Infiniti G35 Sedan Brakes
I just purchased a 2005 G35 Coupe from a dealer. It only has 28,000 miles on it. I am wondering if the brakes need work.
Sometimes they stop the car very smoothly and sometimes there is a stong vibration at high speed. As the car begins coming to a stop, there is usually a slight push and pull feeling, like the rotors are wearing unevenly. Is this common? Any thoughts are appreciated.
I don't know much about the brakes on this car. Is there a good source of information?
Thanks,
Neil

Just do a search here and happy reading. Yes the brakes wear fast. The 05's may not be as bad as the 03/04's. More than likely you will need new pads and the rotors re-surfaced. My rears cost me $200 thru a independant shop.
I think my fronts are going to need it soon? While stopped I can slowly press the brake pedal almost to the floor. They still operate smoothly with no grinding but it shouldn't do this.

so do you have a coupe or a sedan??... title says sedan, but post says coupe...
you may have uneven brake pad material transfer onto your rotors... i just recently did my own brake job by replacing the rotors, pads, and brake lines...
my rear pads wore more than the front as one of the wear indicator tabs started losing material hence the squeal from time to time... fronts could have gone at least another 5k or maybe even 10k miles... anyway i'd figure i just replace rotors with oem spec aftermarket rotors... i used nissan oem pads though.... after the install i took it out to bed the pads... look up brake bedding and there are lots of information on the process.... stoptech has a whole section on such... cars fresh off the lot should be run through this procedure too.

slight tangent here, but the only squeaking I get from my brakes is when I go in reverse (usally after just starting the car up on a cold morning/day). Does this seem to be something that I need to have looked at?
thanks....
thanks....
the rotors on these cars tend to warp easily.
answer this: when you are breaking, does it shake the steering wheel or the whole car?
steering wheel shake will indicate the front rotor(s) being warped. the whole car shaking tells you that the rear rotor(s) are warped.
I just pulled my rotors yesterday dues to the whole car shaking under braking. I had all 4 rotors cut (turned on a brake lathe.) the problems turned (no pun intended) out to be the passenger side rear rotor. it needed a couple passes on the lather to "true" it. the other 3 just took a little cleanup pass.

I don't know why I said my car is a coupe. It has 4 doors. It sounds like I need to have my front and/or rear rotors trued. That is what I expected. The car was most likely used for around-the-town driving before I purchased it since it only averaged 9,000 miles per year.
