Inner tie rod

I believe I have determined that my highway-speed shake is from a defective left inner tie rod.

The boot is torn, and much of the grease has leaked out.

The service manual only shows the replacement procedure on a bench with the entire rack removed. Is this really necessary? I can't seem to find the exact spot where the inner tie-rod can be separated from the rack in the service manual; only the reassembly procedure.

The rack does NOT need to be removed. There is a special tool you need to remove the inner tie-rods with the rack still installed.

Here are some before / after pics. They were both BAD, especially the ball joint on the inner rod. It was free-floating; no resistance at all.
