Floor Jack Help!

Yes, i've searched and i've read the threads around here on floor jacks. But none of them are that recent, a lot of recommended products are not for sale anymore.

I bought a wal-mart jack - bad idea, it's since been returned. And i just bought this craftsman http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...ord=floor+jack at sears, but upon getting home and looking at reviews it will most certainly be going back.

I'm not going to be using it "professionally". Maybe a few times a month up and down and lightweight is big since I'll be transporting it to use it.

I've seen a few recommendations for this one http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=91039. They also have a "rapid pump" http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=40105 for $80 more. Do you think the rapid pump would at all be worth it? And is there anything to be said about going a step up from a 1 1/2 ton to maybe a 2 ton?

Or any other recommendations?? thanks a lot guys

Try your local costco. I bought an Arcan steel jack from them and so far it works great. Its the same one northerntool.com sells http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...5429_200345429 but its red and is less than $100.

I've heard some costco's have aluminum jacks of the same brand so its worth a try. There is a liberal return policy so if it fails a year or two from now you can return it.

Good idea, I'm not a member but my dad I know has a costco credit card so I'll grab that from him and head over there.

So you'd recommend arcan as a brand?

Yeah I saw that package, but all the reviews I've read about any Craftsman product in the last year says that their quality has fallen off. Most of the reviews about jacks said "DO NOT BUY" and the ones about torque wrenches kept saying how often they broke. It's great that yours is working, but I guess I just don't want to risk having one of the leaky, broken Craftsman products

I've had it for about 3 months and use it at least 4 times a month and it has worked great. I paid around $92.99 for it. It is very sturdy and it fits under my lowered G. Reaches service jack point easily if I drive on one 2x4. Minimum height is 3.5" Northern tool has great reviews on it and with costcos return policy you can't go wrong. It is pretty heavy(~110 lbs) for the steel jack. But if you are lucky, your costco may have the aluminum one(more practical to transport). I read good reviews about their aluminum jack and that it is pretty beefy for an aluminum jack. Its not available at my local costco so I don't have any personal experience with the aluminum one.

Worst case scenario is you return it.

^ yea thanks, the reviews look good and it seems like a solid jack. But 110lbs is way too much for me, considering I'll be transporting it when I use it and my physical stature (ha) I can't imagine having to lug this thing around. Hopefully I can find the aluminum one.

Hoping to get some feedback from anyone about the harbor freight ones...

If you aren't going to use it daily, I have this one and love it. Its very light and low and I just leave it in the trunk with my tool box. The 2pc detachable handle is a plus too. Trade off is, its not very heavy duty, but maybe it seems that way because its pretty light. Look around, HF has it on sale sometimes for $69 bucks.

Well I read online about the $200 Craftsmen and the reviews are about as bad as the get

I found a 15% harbor freight coupon in a mag and went to the local store (i didnt even know they had stores until now) and they had the jack already on sale for 79.99 plus the 15% off. So i got it for like 65 bucks and bought the $20 two year replacement plan
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=91039

it's pretty lightweight - costco had the jack but it was SO heavy, this harbor freight one is pretty lightweight - only about 40lbs

I found this one that seems to make a bit lower clearance for a dumped G. I am picking this up soon.

Yeah me too... Its the worst jack I have ever used! It comes with a bent jacking rod and takes way way way too much effort to jack when it becomes extended. Piece of crap
